Having our UK van in Japan is quite unusual but we never expected to get taken to the police station. This was a first for us.

  1. That's actually Kelp which is dried to make Kombu. Kombu is one of the key ingredients used to make stock for Japanese soups. The best Kombu in Japan does come from eastern Hokkaido.

  2. Is Chris always having some sort of internal examination on the thumbnails? 😉

  3. If your satnav was made by Bon Jovi, it would say that you’re halfway there. I heard of someone who bought a secondhand satnav from U2, only to find that the streets have no name, and they still haven’t found what they’re looking for 😆 Perhaps those police officers wanted an ice cream and thought that Trudy is an ice cream van. However, I don’t think they’d get any fresh road cones that way 😂

  4. In a remote area of Japan where foreigners do not visit, it is common for a loyal police officer to stop the car if they find a very strange van that does not have a Japanese license plate.
But don't worry. Japanese police officers are humble and kind. And it is their presence that keeps you safe on your journey.

I look forward to watching your program once a week. Have a nice trip.

  5. From what i have learnt about japanese police on various YT channels, i will care not to over-generalize about japanese police’s politeness and so on.
The same goes for samurai’s code of honour, etc, etc, … .
I nonetheless like the non-elite japaneses.

  6. Please don't point your finger at things, it's considered rude in Japan. The Japanese use the whole of their hand to show directions or to show things of interest

  7. This is my favorite video yet. Love the storytelling, and boy, am I locked in for this journey home. Japan seems like one of the lovelest places on the planet. ❤

  8. Such an interesting country. I have always thought it would be manic because of Tokyo but what you have shown is the opposite. Thankyou. 😍😍

  9. Hi Chris and Marianne hope you are enjoying your travels through Japan at least the police were nice 😊 thank you guys for sharing your long rd home

  10. Love seeing the authentic culture you share. That is what makes the world a beautiful place.❤👍

  11. Global travelers are not everyday sight in secluded place like Hokaido, youre celebrity, now,,wouldnt be surprised if TV news came to see you 😊

  12. what a great video. the scenery is beautiful and everybody is so relaxed. it is great to see how people in Japan are so polite, even the the police. [ did the police want you autograph 😄. ] just to tell you im' off to Turkey next month for a well earned vacation, Fetihye. keep well and safe.

  13. As someone who has driven in a lot of very thick fog. I used polarized sunglasses and it cuts glare and gives you may a 100 extra yards you can. In the fog any extra distance is wanted. It seems crazy but if the fog is getting glare from the sun it is helpful

  14. Hello Ambassadors
Wow, what a great video this was! Dance festival by itself was great. Costumes, colors, flags were just awesome 💯🎉. I liked the approach of the policemen to you folks. They were courteous! You are having fun there but because of your videos I am having fun here, Thanks for that. Can't wait for the next one. Uh, almost forgot to say this Chris the music in the background while they were dancing was great. I will try to find that music so I can listen it more👍👍🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷💕💕

  15. Another great vlog, one child grows up to be somebody that just loves to learn another child grows up to be somebody you'd just love to burn, well not of course but just a lyric

  16. Hi from Sapporo and the veggie patch! Great videos – a real reminder of a hot, early summer weekend. It was our pleasure to host you and get inspiration for our own long roadtrip plans. Nemuro police are stars. Very cool and friendly with the situation. TBH there are a lot of car exporters in this part of Japan – ports shipping to Russia, China and Korea – so local police check number plates carefully to make sure they are legal for Japanese roads. Anyway – thanks again for coming to stay 🙂 (OMG we ate a lot of fried stuff that day…not healthy…)

  17. This episode had my heart filled from beginning to end. 💗 Loved how curious and helpful Sgt. Angel & PC Butterman were 😉, and how you two and Trudy always seem to draw people like that to you!

The easternmost site was so bittersweet. I don't know what is more poignant, maybe you can tell me: is it that you're heading home from here on, or is it that this adventure is now half over? Happy tears and hugs from Seattle!! ❤️❤️😎👍xx

  18. Hey Chris, as nice as the Japanese are. I bet you could have ordered a crab to eat in your Jail Cell! 😂

In all seriousness, glad to see you guys getting plenty of content for us!

  19. The seaweed is called “konbu” and is an essential ingredient in Japanese cuisine. It's a high-class ingredient regardless of its appearance. "hanasakigani" is a rare crab that can only be caught in the Nemuro region. I have relatives who were born in that area, but I haven't eaten it yet.

  20. You showed it at the very end, but no mention of what Sapporo is famous for – its beer. It's like going to Dublin and not mentioning Guinness!

  21. OMG, you had Hanasaki crab! I envy you as a Hokkaido-origin. These crabs eat Konbu which make their meat rich with umami flavor. One of my favorites.

  22. Hi I'm local Japanese in Nagoya. If you are you still in Japan, vsitting here is good option grand sumo tournament is being held! :-)

  23. It is good to know that the Japanese are so, so friendly. Their reputation is well deserved. At 12.00, that suburb is so peaceful, hardly ant awful traffic, the people are mostly on foot. That is the sort of town I would be happy to live for the rest of my days. At 13.30, I just love the way the people in traditional dress and all the Japanese have a big broad smile as soon as they see someone filming them, so nice.

  24. Great video editing to maintain interest! I bet you have loads more content than we’ve seen…especially that dance festival…SO colourful and dynamic! Many thanks from a wishy, washy English summer!

  25. Harika bir vlog olmuş dans gösterilerini ve dansçıları keyifle izledim şehirde olmakda bir başka Tokyo'ya gidecekmisiniz?
