Today we have one of the best flight experiences with JAL (Japan airlines) while we embark on a 15 hour direct flight from London.
Arriving in Tokyo we get a glimpse of what is in store for us, from vending machines to the busy tokyo metro!

That giant crab is the signature signage of a famous restaurant for crab cuisine. It's a very delicious place. The name of the restaurant is call KaniDoraku. You must have seen it in Osaka as well I bet. That's where they originate from.
Oh don't worry, merchandise you get from Disney Store is totally different from merchandise you get from Disney Resort. awweee I wish I can take you around Japan~~~

Just helpful tips, take em or leave em:
1. Order your SIMS card or Wifi before leaving for your trip. That way, you can switch or set everything up on the plane and start immediately using your mobile devices.
2. Always always aaalways sleep on the plane! I know it can be hard but you will spend most of your first day or two sleeping if you don’t sleep on the plane.
3. For vlogging, please be mindful of filming laws in Japan.
4. Also not sure if you mention this, but bring lots of cash. Most vendors in Tokyo will take credit card but outside of the city more and more vendors only accept cash.

I think my favorite part was the little bar shops lining the alley. It was really cool to see that everyday culture, something you don't see a lot of!

So just like you, my husband was applying to do a TEFL in Japan, met me and well… the rest is history 😂 13 years later, still together, now married and very happily so! Just goes to show that fate has its way of letting you know what’s meant to be! ❤

Yay – how exciting for you. Loved this first video and can’t wait for the rest. Coming off the plane and straight into getting train tickets, portable wifi, then finding the right trains/platforms is pretty daunting but you both seem to handle it well.

I've been living in Japan for the past 7 years (Kumamoto, way down south) so it was fun to see Japan through fresh eyes! I'm used to Japan now but I tried to go back to America for a visit last year and I couldn't stand it. 😆 I was like, "GET ME BACK TO JAPAN IMMEDIATELY." My husband is Japanese so I'll be here forever, but even if he wasn't, I don't think I'd want to leave. 😅
I assume you’re home now but when we went we couldn’t stop buying Pokémon plushy, ended up buying one of those hoover bags from daiso and flattening then all! Had to leave half our clothes too 🤔 xx

The flavored alcoholic drinks are called chuhai, I get the 9% Strong Zero brand. Welcome to Japan, I live here now so I live seeing people's first time here. I always recommend taking on empty bag for all the stuff you buy so you're not stressed in trying to fit everything. If you need to, go to Donkihote and use Google translate to ask where suitcases are. If you're in Shinjuku there is one there I believe.
Hi Catherine, thanks for a very enjoyable vlog. We are off to Japan for the first time ever at the end of October and have been watching a lot of Japan and Japan Airlines videos. We live mostly in Thailand but have a house in Sweden where we spend the summer/autumn and have decided to visit Japan on our way back to Thailand this time, instead of just travelling straight back as we normally do. Coincidentally, I have actually been looking at flying Stockholm-London-Tokyo and have even looked at staying at the same Premier Inn at Terminal 4, so big coincidence! Still not decided which flight/route to take yet though but will get that nailed down in the next few weeks. Obviously I am now going to have to subscribe and follow all your Japan adventures to as we prepare for one of our own 🙂
Looks great, stinks you went during June where it's super hot. I'm heading over there in November. Haven't been there in 6 years or so. Funny how people buy wifi meanwhile my phone works internationally no issues lol.

I am so happy that your video highlights the contrasting beauty of Japan on day one. My favourite part of Japan is the fact that tradition and modernity intertwine perfectly. I usually find “travel day/ first day in Japan” vlogs frustrating because it seems like people visit with zero research and become overwhelmed very quickly. Your appreciation is so clear and I love it. I really hope that we see some of the infamous host hairdos from kabukicho in future videos!
