Ose Matsuri is a fishermen festival where tough burly fishermen get in touch with their feminine side by donning women’s kimono and painting their faces white with streaks of red and black while singing and dancing. Local legends say long ago a wife gave her fishermen husband her kimono and his safe return started the festival.

Ose festival takes place on April 4th in Osezaki Cape near Numazu in Shizuoka Prefecture. Around 7:30-8 the festival begins with colorful boats arriving with men in brightly colored kimono singing and dancing. They also have free grilled fish and sake.
