did you dip tempura into the dipping soy source (known as "tuyu")? Maybe dipping sources and other soups are difficult to tell from for the first time visitors… just curious.
let me fill some blanks out. The young man is their son and along with his wife they have been living in Japan (possibly teaching English) and the parents have come to visit them.
I tell you why japanese people write comment in their language . They are kids can't write english and can't imagine wheather foreign people understand japanese language. I'm so sorry.

箱に入っている食事の時に食べていたのはたぶん「天ぷら」だと思うのですが、すぐ手前にあった「天つゆ」か「塩」などに着けないとおいしくないですよー
