Off The Beaten Path – Japan [Zao & Sendai Hidden Gems]

Best things to do/see/eat in Miyagi:

My Japanese friend Mamoru and I decided to take a road trip to North Japan. We both have never really visited and ended up in Miyagi Prefecture.
We booked a ryokan, Japanese style inn, in Zao and visited a variety of interesting places in Zao and Sendai.
In Zao, we saw the onsen, shrine, kokeshi wooden doll bridge, and the fox village. In Sendai, we saw the station, shopping area, a craft beer festival and had some soup curry.
We also had a chance to go to Mount Zao and see the famous Okama crater and Matsushima bay which is designated one of the Three Views Of Japan.
It was definitely an amazing trip and although it was summer it was much cooler than the sweltering temperatures in Tokyo.
If you are looking for a place in Japan off the beaten path, then I highly recommend North Japan, specifically Zao and Sendai. There were very few foreigners among the tourists so it is still a hidden gem that is worth exploring!
