Shimotsui is a fishing harbor town located in the central and southern part of Okayama Prefecture.

It has been a strategic location for shipping and military since the Middle Ages, and during the Edo period (17th century), it prospered as a port for waiting for the wind and tide.
As a key port on the Seto Inland Sea route, Kitamae-bune and Sankin-kotai gozabune also called at the port, prospering as a port where people and goods gathered.
After entering the Meiji period, it gradually declined due to the development of land transportation such as railroads and the advent of steamships.

    中世から海運・軍事の要衝で、江戸時代は風待ち潮待ちの港として繁栄してきました。瀬戸内海航路の要港で、北前船や参勤交代の御座船も寄港し人や物が集まる港として繁栄しました。
    明治期に入ってからは、鉄道等の陸運の発達や汽船の出現によって次第に衰微し、大正以降、漁業を中心とした瀬戸内海有数の漁港となりました🐟
    岡山あるある → スーパーの鮮魚コーナーに置いてある魚のパックに「下津井直送」ってシールが貼ってあったら迷わず選んじゃいます🥷💞
