What a 360 Year Old Japanese Luxury Ryokan Hotel is Like! 🇯🇵

In this vlog, we take you on a journey through time to our first ever stay in a ryokan – Matsuzakaya Honten, a 360-year-old Japanese inn in Hakone, Japan.

From the moment we stepped into the ryokan, we felt like we were stepping back in time. The traditional architecture, peaceful gardens, and natural hot springs all made us feel like we were living in a different era.

Our room was a masterpiece of Japanese design, with tatami floors, paper sliding doors, and a private rotenburo filled with natural hot spring water. As we soaked in the hot water, surrounded by the beauty of nature, we felt the stresses of everyday life melt away.

The kaiseki cuisine we enjoyed in the dining room was a true highlight of our stay. The multi-course meal was a work of art, each dish carefully crafted to showcase the local ingredients and flavors of the season. From the delicate sashimi to the savory grilled fish and the perfectly cooked wagyu beef, every bite was a revelation. We also enjoyed sampling regional delicacies like freshwater eel and wasabi leaves, which added unique flavors and textures to the meal.

But it wasn’t just the food that made the dining experience so special. The dining room itself was a beautiful space, with traditional Japanese decor and a serene atmosphere. We dined on cushions placed on tatami mats, overlooking a peaceful garden. It was a truly unforgettable meal that we will cherish for a long time.

The onsen hot springs experience was equally unforgettable. The natural hot spring water that filled our rotenburo was rich in minerals and had therapeutic properties that left our skin feeling silky smooth. We also visited the communal onsen, which had indoor and outdoor baths with stunning views of the mountains. It was a wonderful way to relax and unwind after a day of exploring.

But what made Matsuzakaya Honten truly special was the feeling of connection we had to Japan’s rich history and culture. From the traditional yukata robes we wore to the tea ceremony we participated in, everything about the ryokan was rooted in Japanese tradition.

As we left Matsuzakaya Honten, we felt a deep sense of gratitude for the experience we had just had. We had been given the opportunity to step into another world, to connect with a culture and a way of life that has been preserved for centuries. It was a reminder of the beauty and importance of tradition, and a memory that will stay with us forever.

If you’re looking for a place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of Japan, we highly recommend Matsuzakaya Honten. It’s not just a hotel, it’s a journey through time that will touch your heart and soul, and leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.

Join us on this unforgettable journey, our first ever stay in a ryokan, and experience the magic of Matsuzakaya Honten for yourself.

  6. Ossu..! Ocampo clan ❤. The Segundo family have been doing our own excursions all over the Philippines 🇵🇭 as well and we just now have settled down to catch up with you guys and your own Nippon adventures. As usual, your travel vlogs never disappoint. We've caught up with your adventures so far and despite enjoying Filipino food, your latest vlog made us come to realize how much we miss authentic Japanese cuisine right this minute😢. I guess living in Japan all these years for my family and i have altered our palates somewhat. There's just something about how the Japanese combine the different flavors and textures of their food offerings and how they present it with such grace is just what makes Japan such a delight for hard-core foodies like you guys, don't you think? We totally enjoyed your latest vlog because we frequent Ryokans ourselves (mostly in Beppu, Fukuoka) because it's a way for us and everyone in Japan to get away from life's pressures to relax without the digital and everyday distractions of just living. As usual, your well- documented and educational vlogs are excellent. Keep bringing the brilliance on. By the way, we were laughing our eyes out watching you guys bathe because you guys didn't shower before diving head on into the hot pool. 🤣 Taking a bath with soap and water while sitting in the shower is an experience all to itself. Haha!!! Matane.!!! 😂 ❤🎉
