THE SABBATICAL – Episode 8: Paper Cranes (Kyoto & Hiroshima, Japan)

The Sabbatical in Japan continues! In this episode, Marlene, Steve & William find themselves in Kyoto, Japan’s once-upon-a-time capital city, followed by a quick visit to Hiroshima at the same time as the G7 summit.

While in Kyoto, the trio knock-off the tourist checklist including Arashiyama bamboo forest, Gio-ji temple, Kinkaku-ji (the golden temple), Tokufuji and the Fushimi Inari Taisha. They also accidentally find themselves front-and-center in a local celebration, sake included.

After a few days in Kyoto, they take the shinkansen (high speed train) from Kyoto to Hiroshima, coincidentally arriving at the same time as the G7 summit. While politicians dance around their politics, Marlene, Steve & William take in the city through the perspective of the nuclear bombing 78 years prior.

We will be releasing episodes on no particular schedule over the course of the year, so feel free to subscribe and follow along as we post progress from our travels and insights into what and where we end up next.
