The first Tokyo Auto Salon was held in January 1983 at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba, just outside of Tokyo. The event was organized by the Japan Automotive Federation (JAF) and featured only a handful of exhibitors and about 5,000 attendees. The focus of the event was on custom and modified cars, with many of the exhibitors showcasing their own creations.
Over the years, the Tokyo Auto Salon grew in popularity and size. The event moved to Tokyo Big Sight in 1992, a larger and more central location that allowed for even more exhibitors and attendees. By the early 2000s, the event had become a must-attend event for car manufacturers, tuners, and enthusiasts from around the world.
In recent years, the Tokyo Auto Salon has expanded beyond Japan to other countries in Asia, including Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. These international events bring the same spirit of creativity and innovation to new audiences.
