I understand what you are saying in the difficulty of conveying the degree of horror of the Hiroshima atomic bomb attack, but do remember that the Japanese military had cameras so certainly photos were shared with the J government and emperor. I visited Hiroshima Peace Park the first time in 1984. There's no way to prepare oneself for the emotional impact such a visit will entail, especially for USA citizens. Leaders of all nuclear armed states should be required to visit within their first year of office. Never again.
We were in Japan for the very first time a couple months before this. I laughed when I saw the vending machine with the ties and cameras. We have a picture of the exact same one! (At first I thought, maybe it's a different one selling the same things… but then you went into Kinkakuji.)
Everyone goes to Hiroshima for the Peace Memorial Park. Kyde and Eric go to Hiroshima and their first stop is the Mazda factory. As a Mazda owner I approve.
