Rabbit Island Okunoshima, Hiroshima Guided Walking Tour & Postcard Giveaway

AUDIO from 03:59 sorry (forgot to turn on my mic)
Hiroshima’s rabbit island has so many cute little bunnies to visit and feed, but it also has a dark past as the island was used to make poison gas during WW2 and you can still see the ruins from that horrible time around the island. #rabbitisland #hiroshima #japan #guidedtour #travel
Please drop me a message and if you are one of the first 5 to get in touch- I am happy to send you a cute bunny postcard 🙂 email in the “about” section here on YouTube or you can contact me via Instagram/Facebook: @inboundambassador or Twitter: @JJWalsh
** Sustainable points about Okunoshima: history & less waste & animal support **
I really appreciate the local peace activists who lobbied for the ruins and information boards to be put on the island in English and Japanese to maintain transparency about the history of the island so we don’t forget and we appreciate the sacrifices and resilience of the local people that went through that horrible time.
My talk with visual journalist Fritz Schumann who spent 6 years researching the island history and interviewing local people: https://youtu.be/GHZ8-KYPg1c
Fritz Schumann’s 30-min documentary about the history of OKUNOSHIMA – (it’s sad and powerful):

I also really appreciate the amazing volunteers who come and refill the water dishes and feed the rabbits healthy food. I also appreciate the sustainable business in the area: the ferry port business that sells supplies the small ferries to get more people to and from the island, sells tickets in English and Japanese and sells healthy rabbit food for visitors to feed the bunnies in PAPER bags which you can get a free postcard if you return it! You cannot buy the rabbit food on the island. The shop also has cute rabbit themed gifts many made in the local area- so this business is a great support of the local economy.

  1. 25:00 was my favorite feeding session with the bunnies – I will take more heads of cabbage next time- obviously their favorite – funny to see them trying to steal the whole thing and take it away- we have lots of cabbage in Hiroshima & basis of our local OKONOMIYAKI dish

  2. I'm so sad I missed the live. I was unwell and had to go to bed. I'd love to have a rabbit postcard if u haven't already picked your top 5 people. You have my address. Loved watching the replay. The bunnies are adorable.
