Foreigner exploring GREENBELT, a Luxury Ayala Mall in Makati City, Manila, Philippines.

Greenbelt is a shopping mall in Makati owned by Ayala Malls, a real-estate subsidiary of Ayala Land. Greenbelt was built around a 250,000-square-meter retail complex, with the mall merging the previous small arcades and shops, conceptualizing the new Greenbelt as the Philippines’s first lifestyle center with bars, posh boutiques, lush tropical greenery, a world-class museum, and an elegant chapel.

Greenbelt 1 first opened to the public in 1988 as one of the Ayala Corporation’s flagship projects. But now has 5 sections. Greenbelt 1 was renovated in 2001, and as the complex grew, Greenbelt 2 and 3 were opened in 2002, with Greenbelt 4 opening in 2004 and Greenbelt 5 in 2007.
In 2019 the ground level of Greenbelt 3 closed in 2019 for renovation, with The new area reopening in October 2021, which now hosts luxury labels and a newly-renovated Starbucks Reserve cafe. Greenbelt 4 started its renovation works in the third quarter of 2022 and reopened on April 2023.
Greenbelt offers a mix of high-end retail shops, restaurants, amenities, leisure and entertainment.

I’ve always fancied checking out Makati. Condos in Makati are expensive too. I’d recently completed 3 years in Cebu, before travelling for 10 weeks in Vietnam and Malaysia. But I was missing those daily interactions you have in the Philippines which I hadn’t been having in Vietnam or Malaysia.
You can only really have those connections in the Philippines. I made up my mind pretty quickly and booked a flight to Manila 5 days ahead.

Foreigners can live in the Philippines for 3 years without leaving on a Tourist Visa. You just need to renew every 2 or 6 months for a maximum of 3 years before needing to leave the country. What is the big attraction to living in the Philippines? What does the Philippine have that other countries don’t have? Why live or retire to the Philippines? Why choose a big Asian city such as Manila rather than live in the province? How do people/retirees spend their time? Retiring in Asia, how would you spend your remaining time on earth?

Low cost of living, diversity, culture, weather, food, scenery, long visas entice foreigners to live in the Philippines. Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends, but so last century. When you’re there you feel like you’re stuck in an 80s/90s time warp with the old skool music blaring out and the outdated infrastructure.

Manila is a vibrant Asian city and favorite travel destination in Asia. Cebu has the best of both world – combining the city life of shopping malls and nightlife with beaches and paradise islands. The Philippines should be on everyone’s bucket list with its beautiful white sand beaches, fabulous idyllic islands, turquoise sea and stunning scenery. The Philippines is a traveller’s paradise and regularly included in top ten favorite places to visit in Asia and affordable, favorite world holiday destination.

Many foreigners/expats choose the Philippines as the best country to retire in Asia and live in paradise. The Philippines is one of the cheapest countries to live in the world with its low cost of living and all year sunshine. Retiring in the Philippines is affordable on a budget of around $800 pcm.

  1. I'm sure you were ready to see Filipinos living in jungles, climbing trees and eating scrubs. I am sure Daily Mail Daily Express and Daily Mirror all succeeded for several years poisoning the British mind. I know because Iwas married to a Brit/English for four decades and the UK was my second home. The perception was always derogatory but the good thing is, Filipinos have always been self-deprecating and couldn't care less what others think of them. Indeed, so much negative perception was put in the minds of Europeans especially the British in the past that you for one are surprised that it's just the opposite. The YouTube of course has helped balanced that darn perception. In fact, when I used to go to the UK and stay there for at least three months with my husband, he got tired listening to the new idea, I, in particular that how wrong the British friends were. They were of course apologetic and and found sense in their previous perception about Filipinos living in jungles, well, at least 95% of them. To this day, Filipinos remain with the attitude, "We couldn't care less what others think of us…." because you know what? They are very emotionally secure, and not insecure unlike Europeans who always think of , "….what do they think of me…?" Hmm. Perhaps, an egg on your face, after seeing the other side of the Philippines? Cheers from Spain!

  2. wow, a lot of beauties walking around. These are mini-latinas and are very sexy. Great people watching

  3. Out of stock?? Big, big logistics difficulty with financial complication if a business want to survive in a highly competitive market. But it seems this situation is normal and not a priority for many business owners.

  4. I hope to explore Greenbelt and all of Makati and BGC one day hopefully this year. I have been to Manila but for the most part just passing through. Nice video Uncle.

  5. Reminds me of and looks like a mall in the US in the 80's, it's a compliment because in the 80's US malls were nice and I liked visiting them (somewhat!)
Really good camara work and great editing Biggs and your commenting/narrating is so…British, Ha!
I really liked the background (or foreground?) music in 2 sections in which you didn't talk. I assume it's royalty free music pulled from somewhere but it really fits the video footage. And of course we like all the charming ladies that you shoot into your video(s), that's why you put them in 🙂

  6. Wow man you are creepy and you oooze sex tourist.I live in the Philippines and us expats can spot your sort a mile off.

  7. I remembered i kept a usd 100 notes and later exchange it but was refused by money changer. It was a genuine note but old. But they gave me a small amount to take it.

  8. The lady in the light blue dress at 13:50 definitely does it for me. She doesn't look Filipina though, more like Chinese.

  9. FOLKS, FOREIGNERS.. BE EXTRA CAREFUL THOSE PEOPLE MEETING FROM " FACEBOOK " OR SOMEWHERE IN THE PHILIPPINES SIMPLY BCOZ THERE ARE TONS OF SCAMMEEEERS..!!!
