Foreigner visiting BGC (Bonafacio Global City) for First Time, Manila, Philippines.

Bonifacio Global City (also known as BGC, Global City, or The Fort) is a financial business district in Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines. No, it’s not in Makati as I keep being told, it’s officially under jurisdiction of Taguig City. Both cities have been fighting over its rightful ownership for the past 30 years and it was only resolved by the Supreme Court on 3rd April 2022 with Taguig City finally triumphing over their affluent neighbours.

BGC prides itself in being ‘A City with a Soul’—rich with lush parks, open spaces, an active streetlife, and public art such as its landmark murals and sculptures. It is a 15-minute community, where everything that you need is conveniently within reach.

The history of BGC is quite interesting It used to be an army camp called Fort William McKinley after the 25th American president called coincidentally William McKinley.

I’ve always fancied checking out Makati. Condos in Makati are expensive too. I’d recently completed 3 years in Cebu, before travelling for 10 weeks in Vietnam and Malaysia. But I was missing those daily interactions you have in the Philippines which I hadn’t been having in Vietnam or Malaysia.
You can only really have those connections in the Philippines. I made up my mind pretty quickly and booked a flight to Manila 5 days ahead.

Foreigners can live in the Philippines for 3 years without leaving on a Tourist Visa. You just need to renew every 2 or 6 months for a maximum of 3 years before needing to leave the country. What is the big attraction to living in the Philippines? What does the Philippine have that other countries don’t have? Why live or retire to the Philippines? Why choose a big Asian city such as Manila rather than live in the province? How do people/retirees spend their time? Retiring in Asia, how would you spend your remaining time on earth?

Low cost of living, diversity, culture, weather, food, scenery, long visas entice foreigners to live in the Philippines. Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends, but so last century. When you’re there you feel like you’re stuck in an 80s/90s time warp with the old skool music blaring out and the outdated infrastructure.

Manila is a vibrant Asian city and favorite travel destination in Asia. Cebu has the best of both world – combining the city life of shopping malls and nightlife with beaches and paradise islands. The Philippines should be on everyone’s bucket list with its beautiful white sand beaches, fabulous idyllic islands, turquoise sea and stunning scenery. The Philippines is a traveller’s paradise and regularly included in top ten favorite places to visit in Asia and affordable, favorite world holiday destination.

Many foreigners/expats choose the Philippines as the best country to retire in Asia and live in paradise. The Philippines is one of the cheapest countries to live in the world with its low cost of living and all year sunshine. Retiring in the Philippines is affordable on a budget of around $800 pcm.

  1. I have a soft spot for B G C spending most of my time with a beer or two at a great place called New Orleans bar 🍸

  2. Exceptionally glossy for a, let's be honest, third world country. Wealth gaps within a few miles must be tremendous. Phillipinos are hard working people, but how many decades will it take for this "American" dream to reach the ordinary people. Birth rate will need to come down as well, otherwise it will be like catching a departing train.

  3. Great vid as usual. I see those folks are still stuck on stupid with the masks. Amazing. But they all can't be that studid, so what do you attribute their behavior too? Some fashion statement or what? Just curious.

  4. Instead of saying Bonifaysio try Boneefahsho (as in saying fashion minus the n). Andres Bonifacio is a revolutionary hero who headed the revolution against Spain.

  5. BGC doesn't claim to be a city with a soul. Makati CBD (not the area where you're staying, but the actual downtown Makati) has a lot more soul while still being clean and orderly

  6. TRY to discover clarck ecozone and remember your fellow americans, the city name after Harold M. Clark clarK is everything to offer it is a new develope megacity sonner.

  7. Slow-mo when you see some girls passing that are probably 3 times younger than you. Pathetic. Look at yourself in the mirror and get a grip.

  8. I completely get your take on things in asia and enjoy your witty charm being a fellow brit, would like to see you do a vlog in angeles city, Pampanga cheap bus from manila about 2hr well worth a trip

  9. had fun at BGC barcade. i dont drink but i loved the vibe still as a tourist enjoying music and playing arcade games. i saw it on instagram that place so i said i had to visit this area.

  10. President McKinley annexed the Philippines as our colony the lasted 50 years. Where are all the age gap marriages here?

  11. BGC is the spot for the hottest tail in MNL. And no broke province girls. Upscale educated professionals that love to party. Great clubs and great nightlife.
