Touted as a “Japan in miniature,” Hyogo is one of Japan’s most diverse prefecture, and is known to the famous Himeji Castle, Kobe beef, and various onsen resorts such as Kinosaki. It is made up of twenty-nine cities, one of which is Kobe, the capital of Hyogo. One of the three largest Buddha statues was also built in Hyogo, at Nofuku-ji Temple in Kobe. Hyogo is bordered by seas to the north and south with mountains in the middle making its varying climates offer outdoor activities all year round, from seaside sunbathing to skiing and onsen. This wide slice of Japan sits next to Kyoto, and just north of Osaka, so be sure to add it to your Kansai itinerary where Sakura’s broadcasting this time highlighting Hyogo, Osaka and Kyoto.
Awaji Island is the mythical birthplace of Japan, the towering UNESCO site all-white Himeji Castle is the must-see icon. You can finish a busy day by splurge on Kobe’s world-famous wagyu beef. It’s a melt-in-the-mouth marvel of legendary status.

Osaka is home to Universal Studios Japan and its location in the Kansai region makes it a great jumping off point to fascinating destinations like Osaka and Kyoto. There’s much to love about this city that’s become one of our favorites in Japan. Osaka has been known as Japan’s kitchen since the Edo period making it a must for the foodie. It also has some great gardens and natural places, interesting history, culture, festivals, and attractions.
List of landmarks in the city include Osaka Castle, Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, Dōtonbori, Tsūtenkaku in Shinsekai, Tennō-ji Park, Abeno Harukas, Sumiyoshi Taisha Grand Shrine, and Shitennō-ji, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Japan. We recommend at least 6 days to see the must-see of the Osaka, Hyogo and Kyoto, or stay in Osaka for 4 days then to move Kyoto or Hyogo. But it would be better if you can stay for at least 8 days, which will allow you to visit all the best highlights of Kansai region including Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Himeji, and Hiroshima. Within your 8 days stay, foodies will be busy trying Takoyaki. Stewed beef tendon (doteyaki), Deep-fried skewers (kushikatsu), Udon hotpot (udon suki), Pufferfish hotpot (tecchiri) and sashimi (fugusashi) and Okonomiyaki.

Kyoto has one of the largest collections of 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, which includes 12 Buddhist temples, three Shinto shrines and one historic castle. No trip to Kyoto is complete about Japan, without visiting at least some of these amazing sites once or more.
