■Description
Wakayama Castle (和歌山城, Wakayama-jō) is a Japanese castle located in the city Wakayama, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. Wakayama Castle was built in 1585 and prospered as a residence for the feudal lord of the House of Kishu (one of the three great houses of Tokugawa). The current castle was rebuilt in 1957, but it retains the same appearance as it had in the Edo period. Inside of the castle is a historical museum. From the lookout, you can see the city of Wakayama and Wakayama Bay. The castle was designated a National Historic Site in 1931, and its Nishi-no-Maru Garden was designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty in 1987.
In and around the castle, you can spot Omotenashi “Hospitality” Ninjas’ who offer help and assistance to tourists visiting the castle. They will take your pictures, push wheel chairs, or show you some neat Ninja tricks!
