Okutama is about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Shinjuku station. It is located in Tokyo, but is full of nature, great view of the lake, and great food. You can go to Okutama as a day trip from Tokyo. So if you want to experience local Japanese life, I recommend you to visit in Okutama!

Your posts of Japan are the best on the Internet. They are full of information and share the real culture of the nation. Thank you both!!
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us. It is very useful information and interesting to watch.
It IS IN Tokyo in fact.
For example, if you look up any address in Okutama, it is 東京都 which directly translates “ Tokyo Metropolis” A prefecture would be defined as 県 in Japanese 。However, there is no such thing as 東京県 “Tokyo prefecture” only 東京都 “Tokyo Metropolis”
