Hiroshima:
We came to Hiroshima to learn, but in reality, we’ve always kind of known about this place. It’s one of those far away lands that you learn about as a school kid; a place where a really bad thing happened a really long time ago. But if our journeys so far have taught us anything, it’s that to get a better sense for how historically tragic events can impact a place and it’s people.. you need to go there. In the case of Hiroshima, just being here offered a healthy dose of perspective as soon as we realized that every single place we’d been to within the city so far was effectively wiped out in the blink of an eye 70 years earlier. In close proximity to the children’s peace monument and atomic bomb dome is the Hiroshima peace memorial museum. At the time of our visit, the only part of the museum that was open was the west wing, which focuses not only on the destruction that was left behind by the bombing, but also on the personal stories behind some of the victims. It was an intense visit but also an important reminder of what’s really at stake in war. After about an hour, we turned in our audio guides and walked out in a daze. We needed time to recover… as we walked around this charming city, you would never know that anything devastating ever happened here. As time progressed, wounds healed and the people of Hiroshima have moved on. So we had to move on too…

Anime Japan 2015 Convention:
Ok so just incase you’re unfamiliar with the term cosplay, it’s short for costume play and it’s all about dressing up as your favorite fictional character. in the last decade, cosplay has exploded in popularity… since… let’s face it, who doesn’t want to be their favorite hero for the day? So it’s no surprise that dedicated fans from all corners of the globe invest huge sums of time and money for the chance to become the next cosplay superstar. Now.. this is an anime convention after all so naturally there’s an overabundance of boobs. There’s animated boobs, real life boobs, pictures of boobs, pillow boobs and clay boobs! But don’t let this creep you out, the world of anime is big and there’s something for everyone

Miraikan:
The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation or Miraikan as it’s nicknamed is a place with lots of fun, hands-on exhibitions that allow you explore all sorts of interesting topics from the wide world of science. Now admittedly, this place is largely geared towards children, but we still had a great time playing with all the displays and expanding our feeble minds while we waited for the main attraction, Asimo.

Asimo:
Developed by Honda, Asimo is an acronym for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility. It was the company’s goal to create a walking helper robot which could adapt and interact with humans as well improve the quality of life for those with limited mobility. Asimo can run, balance and jump unaided which is really just the beginning of this robot’s vast array of amazing, yet slightly creepy features. Although he, or it, is the most advanced humanoid robot in the world, Asimo is not ready to be deployed to homes quite yet, so in the meantime Honda has sent Asimo all over the world on a mission to promote the study of math and science through performances like this one.
