Kitagishima is an inhabited island of the Kasaoka Islands in the Seto Inland Sea. It belongs to Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture.

The bedrock of the island consists of granite from the Mesozoic Cretaceous period, and the stone produced from the island is distributed under the brand name of Kitagishi. The stone quarry called Choba is dug deep underground in search of high-quality stones, and when mining has stopped, water accumulates in the choba, showing the scenery of Choba Lake.

    島の岩盤は中生代白亜紀の花崗岩で、産出する石材は北木石のブランド名で流通してます✨
    徳川幕府が再築した大坂城の石垣、旧日本銀行本店、明治神宮、靖国神社などにも使われているそうです😃
    丁場と呼ぶ石切場は良質の石を求めて深く掘られており、採掘をやめた丁場には水が溜まって丁場湖になってます。
    1960年代、最盛期に127あった採石業者は安価輸入石材に押されて現在は2社の様です。
    しかしながらラストに出て来るようなアート等、付加価値を高めてがんばってブランド維持、向上に努めていて素晴らしいと思いました💞

    今回も素敵な映像満載ありがとうございます。
    島そのものが石切り場なんですね、下からでは見えないものもドローンで迫力満載です。
    さすがNinja様｡･｡･ﾟ★･｡･｡☆
    関東でも茨城県の笠間が採石場で、今ではまあまあ知名度もあるウエディングフォトスポットにもなってますが、
    ここも離島で無かったら、相当なウエディングフォトスポットになりそうな雰囲気ですね。
