  1. Your rant about Fort Wilderness, especially the design of the cabins and becoming a DVC, is spot on. I don’t understand what is going on at Disney anymore. I feel like WDW actually has something in common with the governor of Florida: both are totally out of touch with what people really feel, want, and need, and honestly, they just don’t seem to care. It used to be a beautiful relaxing place to escape, but now it resembles where I live- crowded, expensive, and every piece of open space eventually has a building put on it.

  2. Detheming is destroying Walt Disney World.
It's going to continue until people stop going.
I was planning a WDW 50th Anniversary trip and stopped after The Last Jedi.
Disney management doesn't care about their History.

  3. You talk about the Cabins as looking like Cabins but fail to remember that originally they were just mobile home/trailers.

  4. Chafik hired an outside group to update the resorts to be more like other high end resorts. The fool has no idea about Disney theming, story telling etc

  5. I'm a 1970's Fort Wilderness girl. IMO the charm of Ft Wilderness was stolen when they allowed people to bring their own golf carts.

  6. I've been going to WDW nearly since the beginning. You are so right, Tom, Disney is screwing up everywhere–I miss the Luau, I miss Trail's End Buffet, I miss the slow laid-back feeling of Fort Wilderness, and I miss the (little-known) walking trail between Fort Wilderness and The Lodge. Walt would be so disappointed. The money grab is alive and well at WDW.

  7. They might be going after the "Frank Lloyd Wright" Look. Nice, for someone else, who Loves Modern Architecture…..Not traditional Fort Wilderness Log Cabin Feel…..SAD. Doesn't go with the Tri-Circle-D Ranch either….

  8. The past couple of years I've said I believe Disney intends to move the Disney theme parks and resorts to a paid membership model. It's a long game that they'll play, but there's so many incremental actions by Disney that back up my theory. The only other thing they could possibly do is switch DVC from permanent and perpetual ownership to a subscription based model.

  9. Stayed at Fort wildness cabins 6 times with family of 13 with grandkindkid sorry not again $$$$$

  10. Well, count me as a win. You converted me. After reading your title, I thought, OMG really? What now? A rant about Ft. Wilderness DVC? But you made me reverse my thought process. I am a person of Nostalgia and don't believe in the total overhaul of everything just for the sake of "modernization." As a DVC member, I think they have over sold their other resorts. In the hunt for more money. I think they sold too many shares at their expensive resorts and this is a response to members complaining about resort availability. Don't want to make it a long rant, on my part. So, put together the pieces that I'm leaving out.

  11. Just recently discovered this channel. After watching several, I really enjoy them. A Disney “nut” (particularly parks and tech) since the 1970s, most of these seem made for me. Thank you Tom and all.

  12. I don't even care what Ronnie does anymore. Disney deserves this. They have been making so many mistakes

  13. I am sick and angry about all the things that Disney is taking away, and the big thing is the magic!!! I probably will never go back again because of all the changes and tgey are changes for the worse. I find it shocking that Bob Iger does not understand Walt's vision! Disney is turning into a six flags…so damn sad! I also think it disgusting that we have to be on the phone all day to do the things in the park!!!!!

  14. My prediction is the Fort will never be the same when they sell and open the DVC. To many longtime shenanigans that currently go on will go away as those spending big $ will not understand the current atmosphere of the fort and constantly complain. DVC owners will have things changed. I also see if it is really successful they will convert loops to DVC motor home spaces and get rid of the tent sites.

  15. I would LOVE Tom’s thoughts on this… I am a DVC member… love Disney, family loves Disney, at the same time, we can barely afford to go these days, and we don’t go as much as we used to. We love the new technology when done right, we love great new rides, but we also love (and probably love more) … Disney Nostalgia, classic Disney parks attractions, the original park attractions, we’re still bummed that Toad left Florida, etc.

Here is the comment that I would love Tom’s thought on, and I think there is an entire video here. As much as we love the idea of DVC, and again, we’re owners… but I actually think that DVC was WDWs “Jump the Shark” moment.

Too many hotels now… to much hotel capacity to fill or being filled without the park options to suit the demand, and everything bad that has spawned with WDW, has happened after the development of DVC. And it’s when the financial models for everything changed. Capacity got worse. Prices went up, transportation got worse… and yet… DVC owners really don’t get any appropriate park or ticketing benefits that make it any more enjoyable.

The only thing that I think I benefit from for my vacation experience, is that I am likely staying in hotels that I wouldn’t be staying in as a cash customer. That’s about it.

Thoughts? I think the DVC era has spawned nothing but diminished park experience value.

  16. Agree with Tom. We literally went there last week. 6 people and we got two cabins. It’s the best bang for your buck for families who rarely come. Glad my kids got to see the old Fort I had when I was a kid and we drove our trailer.

  17. As someone who lives in actual cottage country, I can't believe how ugly the new Fort Wilderness designs are! There are so many "high end, luxury" cottages in my next of the woods that still look like cabins, not some modern, boxy, pre-fab nightmare. Ick.

  18. I agree and felt the same way when I read the story about Fort wilderness….as a dvc owner I would not use my points to stay in some glorified shipping container…they should leave Fort wilderness alone and finish the other resort they cleared the land for….they are being stupid….

  19. I do not care…Disney will do what is best for Disney. You are a guest, and should act and react accordingly.

  20. Making these cabins DVC is ridiculous. The price per point will be a completely different value as compared to a "Deluxe Villa Resort."

  21. I can understand the cabins are old but why change the style, they could build new log cabins. These look like containers! They want DVC for the income. I’m a DVC member but I don’t thing this should be DVC, you can still book a cabin with your points. What they do need are some pull through camp sites for larger class A .

  22. I am with you 100% on your rant on Wilderness! They will pay for it through DVC like you said but if you want to stay there on points they will be through the roof and forget staying on cash – I predict at best over $1000 a night easily but probably more like $2k a night. All DVC stand alone properties are priced through the roof 😡

  23. As another vlogger said, I have lost my passion for the parks. It took 53 years since my first visit to Disneyland in 1967 until the parks closed due to the Wuhan virus.
Disney is its own worse enemy.
I’m still interested in the news of the parks but not interested in going there any time soon.

I love Tom and when he rants, I’m there.

  24. How can this be stopped w a bunch of money hungry idiots running the place? Isn’t anybody normal on board anymore? And expensive themed hotels that we all treasured since Disneys beginnings sure have become bland. Fire this crew & bring on people w hearts & real brains.

  25. I wish they would get rid of some of the cabins and make more space for campers. It is hard to get a camping spot as it is. No vacation club for Fort Wilderness. Those of us who wish to camp to save money can no longer find a spot or it is unbelievably expensive. Save Fort Wilderness!

  26. So sad what they’re doing to fort wilderness
I’m 24 and been going there every year for 20 years, and it’s just terrible what’s happening to them. The tavern and the cabins now too.
    Man this is terrible
    Taking away my childhood

  27. For years we kept annual passes for 20 people. They took that from us. Those 20 people still stay at fort wilderness 2 times a year. But no more. Thanks Disney! You’ve affectively killed Disney traditions for 3 families!!

O yeah I forgot to mention I drove a bus in fort for 2 years. Sad moment for me to hear this.

  28. I'm a DVC Member and I'm not happy with Disney/DVC doing this to Ft. Wilderness. Even though, I've never stayed there, we go there every trip and keep saying "let's stay here". We won't be buying into this property and more than likely won't ever stay there with these "new" accommodations. Just loved the log cabin feel!!! Disney is in the process of destroying this resort as well as others with their "new" decor. We just came back from DL Paris and the rides over there are (in my opinion) better than most of what WDW has. The parks in Japan are definitely on our bucket list – to go by 2026. Kudos to Japan Parks for keeping Disney alive. Shame on WDW Management.. money seems to be more important to them than anything else. Where can we get the next buck… shame on WDW Management for sure

  29. Now, I do like the Tiny Home concept there at Fort Wilderness. In 2022 I had three nights camping at Fort Wilderness – my first day there it was a down pour and luckily I was able to stay in a cabin that first night so i could set up my tent/gear the next morning when the storm blew over. I hate that a regular person won’t have that opportunity.

  30. It's not Walts World anymore.
    It's just gonna get worse.
Now dogs too?! Sorry, I wouldn't want to deal with barking dogs on vacation. Also, all my life I've stayed on Disney property…..since 1976. I no longer can justify staying on the property. I've stayed at many local resorts that are beautiful and much cheaper and better!!
It's just not worth it anymore

  31. If you make a list of all the negative changes made from not offering disney dining to having to pay to get on rides (Genie plus) to no more 1 hour early entry, no extended nights unless you stay at a deluxe resort….to no more trams at couple parks, to too many special event nights cutting your regular day ticket by 4 hours each day. List goes on and on and on with all the NEGATIVE changes….Disney isn't worth the money anymore. Especially knowing Disney has no part in these parks anymore.
