Tokyo’s Rainbow Bridge レインボーブリッジ, Daiba Beach, and more! | JAPAN WALKING TOURS

Come and walk across Tokyo’s Rainbow Bridge with me! This iconic bridge was opened in 1993 and is 798 meters (2,618 ft) in total length. The span of the bridge is 580 meters (1,903 ft).
Along the bridge are two pedestrian walkways, one on the north side and one on the south side. The north side faces Tokyo’s beautiful skyline and gives you great views of Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree Tower, and several of Tokyo’s inner harbor Wards. The south side faces Haneda Airport, Odaiba, and the rest of Tokyo Bay.
The Rainbow Bridge carries three transportation lines on two decks. The upper deck carries the Shuto Expressway’s Daiba Route, while the lower deck carries the Yurikamome rapid transit system in the center, walkways on the outer side, and Tokyo Prefectural Route 482 in between.
It is free to walk across the bridge. The walkways may only be used during certain hours (9 am to 9 pm in the summer; 10 am to 6 pm in the winter, access to the walkways close 30 minutes before closing time.) Bicycles are permitted on the condition that they are pushed (as opposed to riding them).
After crossing the bridge, we check out Daiba Park, an island that was built in 1854 as one of several batteries built for coastal defenses after the arrival of U.S. Navy Commodore Matthew C. Perry in 1853. Remnants of stone cannon pedestals, ammunition storehouses, and barracks can still be seen at the park.
We then stroll along Daiba Beach, an actual sand beach in Tokyo city, before we hop on the Yurikamome Line back towards Shimbashi Station.

  1. Now I want to know more. Did Commodore Perry's black ships come through there and did the Japanese fight back with cannon fire from the batteries?

  2. Thank you for another beautiful Japan walk! It really makes my day watching your videos and getting to experience things I may never get to see. What makes it even better is also being able to listen to your knowledge on your surroundings. Thank you Cory 😊

  3. I love the views from the bridge! Such a nice sunny day. Also that island, wow…Also slippers count: 1 confirmed at 1:05:41. The beach is very cool. +1 for natural bodies of water. I enjoyed the train ride 🙂

  4. I hope you are well after your visit to the hospital. Yesterday’s video is great and the ending on the traín fantástic. Thank you very much, your vídeos are very good. Despite finishing at 5 am I don’t miss them. I love Tokyo. So, take care. Bye, bye.

  5. Hi Cory, great journey, one of your best walks so far, love to know more about the technology of that train, all automatic, no driver, incredible that it stops at the station at the exact spot.
The Japanese are amazing people, thank you🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵

  6. At 58:02, that looks like the remains of an 五右衛門風呂, goemonburo. Maybe the bathroom back when it was a defensive position.

  7. Cory, were you using a stabilizer or gimbal in this video? I asked because what you were holding looked really small, not because the image wasn't steady. Thanks man. I loved that deserted beach, I'd bring a cooler and just hang for hours.
