  1. Thank you for this splendid video. I completely agree with all that you say, and the SOB Traverso units are truly superb ! I have ridden on the SBB Dosto units built by Bombardier (now Alsthom) between Luzern and Zurich, and whilst they are impressive mainly because of their size (!), they don’t glide along like the wonderful SBB IC2000 stock. Many thanks.

  2. What a fabulous interior! I didn't quite get what advantage first class had over second class. Many countries have beautiful scenery, but I don't think any of them are better than Switzerland!

  3. Yes, i rided the Bernina Express from Tirano (Italy) to Chur (Suisse). HUG from Buenos Aires 😊

  4. I agree that the old route is far superior…especially with those spiral tunnels.
The Gotthard Base tunnel ruins the trip by spending so much of the journey inside a mountain.

  5. Liked. And are you allowed to go to Russia? If you're allowed, you can go to a railway from Vladivostok to Moscow. Moscow's train station is really deep and maybe you will go through 5 timezones

  6. In Arth-Goldau you also have connection to another train operated with Traversos. The Voralpen Express from Lucerne to St. Gallen. And next year the trains are running between Chur and St.Gallen.

  7. Great trip. As usual, classic line, no matter it's road or rail always gives breathtaking views even though it's take longer time. Anyway the colour of the train looks cool and make it difference than regular SBB Train.

  8. Hi, great video! What would you say are your top 10 scenic train rides? Just so we can prioritise them!!

  9. Thank you for taking me on a wonderful rail trip, in the comfort of my home. I really enjoyed your calming presentation and your
cinematography. I loved trains as a little boy, and still do as a seventy six year old kid!

  11. The views are spectacular, and the train ride appeared to be very smooth and comfortable. Well worth the price!

  12. Distinguished traveller, did you know that the Locarno railway station is not actually in Locarno?

  13. 03:52 the FLIRT TSI 523 102, arriving at Locarno, is „rent“ from the western part of Switzerland: from the region of Lausanne. The green dot at the side wall „RER Vaudois“.

  14. We have a sign (on the right) of such of this type at 2:02 at our geography's students' book. Below of the photo from another station, text says, that in Switzerland, because of that this country is multilingual, signs (in this case, about no track trespassing) are written in German, French, Italian, Romansh (in Grisons, not mentioned in this book) and/or English (optionally, the lingua franca).

  15. Great journey, I did this journey by rail, Luzern – Lugano area & return back in 1979 (!) as a day trip, and visited the minature village, it was great, the scenary, the journey and the village, right next to the railway station with trains passing all day. I recall going to the Swiss Centre in Leicester Square (London) to buy the tickets and discount rail voucher. I was my first overseas trip alone, still a teenager at the time, touring by car but having crossed the Alps by road before decided the train would be a quicker option, and with no need to watch the road it would be possible to photogragh what I was seeing too. 🤩

  16. Couple months ago, we were in Switzerland (my second visit). It's indeed a paradise for train enthusiasts as one can sample every type of transport there (eg regular rails, cogwheels, trams, cable cars). Information is abundant anywhere that you will never get lost. Transfers are as fluid as water where one won't get in trouble even with a less than 5 minute connection time.

Some may complain about the price (which is the downside), but with the Swiss Half-fare Card and free transport ticket issued by your hotel in the city you are staying, you can travel for way lesser than you would expect. Per mile, I think it's less costly than trains in UK

  17. At 2:43: yeah, Switzerland alright.

So, they have an operator called Fart, and another one called SOB. They didn't really think this through, did they, that people from other countries might find these abbreviations… somewhat odd?

  18. I've done the classic Gottard line on different trains through the years and these new Flirt trains ( me going with on the SBB one) have so big windows it is almost as good views as going on the Panoramawagen!

  19. Just did a trip from Montreux to Spiez on the amazing gauge changing Golden Pass Express- superb train and route. Thanks for sharing- great video.

  20. Nice trip! Went to Lago Maggiore for a wedding once – Pallanza on the Italian side. Only there for the weekend. If we'd had more time, would have done to boat trip to Locarno with the return by train…

  21. I am driving this route in August. What can I expect from the road and are there any places you recommend stopping for a bit?
