世界遺産高野山（和歌山県）の金剛峯寺前にて、護摩木をたき、１年の家内安全や厄よけなどを祈る「高野の火まつり」が行われました。

「高野の火まつり」は、高野山に春の訪れを告げる恒例の行事です。
金剛峯寺の広場には、杉やひのきで組んだ高さおよそ１メートル７０センチの護摩壇が設けられ、その前で、山伏がほら貝を吹き鳴らしたり弓矢を四方に放ったりして、山開きの儀式を行いました。
このあと、護摩壇に火がつけられ、お経を読む声が響く中、願い事が書かれた護摩木が古いお札などとともに次々と投げ入れられました。
訪れた人たちは、護摩壇の周りで手を合わせ、１年の家内安全や厄よけなどを祈っていました。
The “Koya Fire Festival” was held in front of Kongobuji Temple on the World Heritage Site of Koyasan (Wakayama Prefecture), where gomagi (fire sticks) were lit to pray for safety in the home and protection from bad luck throughout the year.

The “Koya Fire Festival” is an annual event that heralds the coming of spring to Koyasan.
In front of the 1 meter 70 centimeter-high gomadan made of cedar and hinoki (Japanese cypress), yamabushi (mountain priests) perform a ceremony to open the mountain by blowing conch shells and shooting bows and arrows in all directions.
After the ceremony, the gomadan was lit on fire, and gomagi (wooden sticks) with wishes written on them were thrown into the fire one after another, along with old money and other objects.
Visitors gathered around the gomadan, clasping their hands and praying for safety in their homes and protection from bad luck in the coming year.
