Leaving the San’in coast, I made my way through the mountains of Yamaguchi Prefecture to Kokura in Kitakyushu City on Kyushu Island. I stopped in Tsuwano a former castle town and a haven for persecuted Christians during the Edo Period. Akiyoshido cave was my second stop. It is Japan’s largest limestone cave.
