Masuda: Japan’s Historic Snow Village

The village of Masuda, part of the city of Yokote in Akita Prefecture, was once a thriving commercial center. The central street, lined with many beautiful historic machiya townhouses, is a testament to this rich past. Masuda is also one of the snowiest areas in Japan. The village lives up to this reputation during our visit in February 2023.
