The greed is disgusting. Cast members deserve a living wage
“Walt wouldn’t have wanted it”…. He was extremely anti union and sought retaliation against those who formed the animation unions. …so much so that he even testified against some of his former animators during the house UnAmerican committees. Disney as a company has almost always been anti worker.
That being said, they shouldn’t be. I stand with the workers… and I think they should be allowed to strike, because living wages for full time employment shouldn’t even be an issue, it should be an automatic given.
yeah yeah yeah! Yeah Tom!
2:37 by cost of living they mean going to disney? because I get by with almost $0/yr and they're complaining about trying to get $20/hr for living rather than seeing if they're worth that much in value to the company? Come on. I bet disney once again is going to let go a lot more people than that – these people sound too greedy. Honestly their job is only worth that much – if they want more, they better be worth more by doing more!
some people where I live want the wage to go over 30/hr just to serve burgers at mcdonald's. Pathetic.
3:38 people always want money and see disney as their cash cow, but don't care about disney struggling too. It sounds really greedy of them – that's why disney is punishing that. Why not be smart and ask for the raise when they're making money, not add insult to injury?
6:44 look I worked many minimum wage jobs until I ran businesses myself. I worked 81 jobs in my life and I worked since 10. I volunteered thousands of hours and retired in my 20s. So I know what it's all about – and that is someone's only worth to a company what value they bring. It doesn't matter how much a person's starving – the fact is that if they had no job they'd have no money at all and where would they be then? It's up to people to take care of themselves – businesses aren't babysitters. It's up to people to manage money in a way to take care of themselves. $15/hr is more than plenty – they can do a lot with that if they save it. What on earth are these people doing wasting their money on babies? The job is the baby if you have one. I've been broke where I needed to work at a farm to get enough food to come home from an interview, but I still know enough to know all this that you're saying is still wrong. If someone wants to do better, they will. They just don't. People at the warehouses asked if their minimum wage pay was deserved and I said yes. They thoguht it was unfair, but it's very fair. You don't get by doing nothing. You get by gambling for better.
7:41 yes I do agree for a business – the employee is really #1 – because tehy work the hardest, but at the same time there's no excuses for why they deserve more pay if they don't do anything to deserve it. One-size-doesn't-fit-all. People just don't want to have personal responsibility where their struggles are their own, not some company's.
8:19 I do agree when others are making a lot of money at the behest of everyone else – that's what's wrong. If you want to have a workforce – and your company's struggling – cut your pay, give everyone a little more to get by – and be done. Common sense.
11:54 calm down – first you get the stock price up, get people going to disney – then you get money coming in and then employees can get paid. Iger put that into the hands of creators. It'll be different. It's just hard with chapek, but iger gives people their worth. Obviously creativity and money are not on equal planes – so people won't always get paid, but why would people want to if they're passionate? Think about that – if people are making money off of creativity – sometimes it makes sense if it fuels more and pays for their creative efforts to push further. but when you have it to pay for everyday needs – that's for grunt work factory jobs. The thing is who of these people you mention want to work at a factory? How hard are they working to not be in one? There's your answer.
12:19 that's not a bad thing – when disney realizes they need someone they'll hire someone.
14:34 I don't really go to disney because entertainment's free online. Sure if I had more money, I can hire people to do a lot of work for me and then I can go, but usually hiring people is as much work as doing everything myself. While I see myself there and see the amazing stuff they do, I just don't see how I can get there. The money's there, but the ability to go to a park isn't. I have really bad health conditions – probably from going there in the first place or just going in general on vacation. What can I do about that to make it possible? I just watch bloggers go for me. They spend way more than I ever could! I mean maybe they keep all the money that should go to disney, but without pooling our money together for a blogger, no one goes!
15:35 chapek sure did a number on this channel.
15:51 Look disney has a lot to clean up. I don't think these people should feel good about making money at a place that's not well. How would you like it if you were sick and everyone instead of helping you stole your wallet and ran away, leaving you with nothing? No – iger made billions in cuts – because they can't afford these. People will find other jobs if they look. there's plenty to go around trust me. Jobs will come back, but healthier. People struggling at the job now means it's not a healthy job to begin with. It's something that's meant to be cut and removed and replaced with better and iger's working on it. But he can't alone if people are doing waht doesn't work – if they want better they need to create better! For themselves.
16:28 iger deserves every penny of his salary. Cheapek deserves nothing – losing the company billions like that. Any company in debt should make any ceo take 0 salary till better.
16:49 exactly – disney shouldn't pay for those who don't contribute. If they slice out the slime, then those who stay and make the big bucks clearly earn the $20 and can have it. Do you honestly want all the money going to those who don't deserve it and those who do waiting in line to get food while starving? No. Look business is business – let it work out. We know you're still riled from how badly chapek treated you – but things will simmer down. Give it a chance and it'll get better. You'll feel it and feel better. Blowing off steam, while a little hurtful – is needed to heal and it's ok – we understand how you feel. Hopefully you'll feel better when the company feels better. What we need is people like you rooting for the company like you do now and wishes will come true – the magic will flow and we'll all be in wealth again 🙂
first the investors then the customers then the employees. Unfortunately employees are always last but they'll be there the longest. So it works out. It's slow, because it's the process.
I feel I'm partially to blame for all this – because my family used to spend a lot at disney, and now that I care for my parents – no matter what disney does I don't show up and that's the worst, as they do so much for me and I just don't pay them in return. I wish I could just hand them money for continuing their initiatives that I see in the news without showing up. but until then, it's where it is. I do feel spreading out the costs amongst income streams is going to give a needed boost.
Disney is too worried about wokeness
I am so happy you rant for the cast members…shame on the other vloggers who don't support the cast ..you are profiting from them step up and support them
Disgusting how CEO's Make millions per year, and can't take care of the people who work hard to get them that kind of money. why can't CEO's cut their saleries
You crazy if you think Universal isn't as creative. Hell all Disney do these days are remakes. Aladdin, little mermaid, another black panther….where is the fresh new creative material?
100% Spot on, Tom. You say it and we all think it. Thank you for using your voice to speak truth to power and for pushing this story. You are the best. This story needs to be shared. We need to take care of cast members. I’ll happily pay $6 for a coke to have those experiences. As Walt said, “you can create the best place in the world, but it takes people to make it a reality.” We need to help the cast members!
Corporations are objectively without moral. It’s the people who make a corporation corrupt or moral, greedy or fair.
