In this video, I go over how I booked our outbound flight to Japan in business class. This flight, on ANA, would typically cost two $3,000 or more each way. We used our credit card points. I had a couple choices to book, but the best option based on my situation was to book through Air Canada Aeroplan for 75,000 Aeroplan points and $55 in taxes and fees.

I transferred 75,000 American Express points for each of us, so 150,000 American Express Membership Rewards points total for both of us to fly one-way in business class from LAX to Tokyo.

  1. I would go for Virgin because I can charge my VX card on $400 x 2 to earn miles. Max, do you think it is a risk to book awards seats within 3 or fewer weeks before the flight? Wonder why ANA release awards seats sooo late?

  2. What is best way ,to do business class, if im from kentucky, going to philippines? Using points

  3. I just flew ANA for the first time and purposefully chose the older seats for the better meal service and better arrival time. The Room, next time! My taxes and fees were lowered when I added HND HKG for not many more VS points, weird but nice surprise. You’re talking a lot faster 🤭 Love your videos!

  4. i was lucky enough to get first class for 55k points and 300$ on this same older flight SFO-NRT any tips on what train to take to tokyo from narita? ill be staying at hyatt regency w chase points in shinjuku

  5. That's a tough choice but since I already have 110k Virgin Atlantic points I would have gone that route. But Aeroplan is definitely a nice redemtion and saves you $700! The difference in points could have been $600 converted to cash so it basically saves you $100 if you look at it that way.

  6. If there happens to be a first class seat that opens up after you’ve booked a ticket, is there a way to upgrade to it using aeroplan points or would I need ana pts?

  7. Great alpha as usual my brother, but would of liked to have seen how you booked the tickets with Aeroplan.
    Cheers 👍🏻🙏

  8. We are trying to do a family vacation to Japan next year, but there are 4 of us, so award availability for business is going to be tough. If I book Virgin Atlantic economy now, can I pay the difference and upgrade to business as award availability comes up?

  9. Honestly could we get some economy videos too? If I have 100,000 theoretical points I want to milk as many international flights out of it as possible. What are the sweet spots?

  10. It's weird. I'm looking at Aeroplan and it's showing me LAX-NRT by ANA @ 75k points one way. So how did you manage 150k for you and your wife return?? I'm genuinely asking because I would book that, for me and my wife since I have 160k Amex points. But it's asking me for 300k points instead! 😩

  11. Curious as to why you didn’t use Alaska to book your Japan airlines business class originally? You would have been able to cancel for free.

  12. Hey Max, awesome video! would you please share how long it take for the American Express point transfer to Aeroplan? i’m planning to do the exact same thing, Thanks

  13. For Virgin Atlantic option can you book one way using half the pts? Also can we use Air Canada instead of United to search for rewards availability?

  14. Max please do travel update video please! loved your past travel vlog posts!!!

  15. Has it ever happened or can happen where you find an award availability, transfer the points, and then the availability is gone? And now the points are stuck there. If so, what do you do in this situation?

  16. Hey!! I have a complicated question. I hope you can assist me 🙂 i signed up for the Amex platinum and have 150k points, i thought I was allowed to transfer the points to miles and smiles but i missread the fine print which said its only with there middle-east cards, i purchased a round trip ticket from turkish airlines already and was hoping to use these points to do an upgrade lol. Is there a way I can transfer these points somewhere else and then transfer them to miles and smiles? I know it's a long shot, but I thought I would ask the expert. Thanks 🙂

  17. Very hard to find availability. If luck you can get 1 ticket do you will have to be folk traveler
