WHERE SHOULD YOU STAY IN JAPAN? Hotels, Ryokans, Capsules, Onsens, and more!

Everything you need to know about lodging in Japan. Japan has so many different options for accommodation that the choice can often be overwhelming! Should you stay in a traditional Japanese Inn, a business hotel, or go unconventional and stay in a capsule hotel? Rates range from less than $20 per person in a dormitory to over $1,000 per person in a luxury hotel in Tokyo. I’ll also cover how to book Japanese hotel rooms, and how to find the best deals.

  1. I bet they don't have many fat people staying there. Trying to get up and down off the floor

  2. Park Royal Shiodome last December. Good hotel. Good location. Right on top of a major train station.

  3. Chris, I noticed you said you book hotels months in advance. Do you usually select the option to pay at the property, or would you pay at the time of booking so long as it is refundable? I would imagine that selecting to pay at the property is better, but I'm also worried that I may end up paying more if the exchange rate fluctuates between now and my trip in September (planning on Australia, Japan will be the next one).

  4. Chris try staying at a Buddhist temple on Koya-san. Best vegetarian food I ever had and you can take part in the morning ceremonies

  5. Someday I want to retrace all the scenes in the Lost In Translation — one of my favorite movies.
P.S. I love sushi and sashimi and I’ve tried fish for breakfast, but I just can’t stomach fish that early in the morning.
