When you’re on the ship, your cruise cabin is your home away from home. It’s a place for you to relax, take in a beautiful view (assuming you have a balcony), and generally enjoy yourself. But cabins on the ship have some unique characteristics that make them unique from any other place you might stay.
With that in mind, here are more than 20 tips, hacks, and things to know for your cabin before you get on the cruise ship.

Or put your wet laundry on the chair pushed up against the window. Or stack the chairs up on top of each other to hold your laundry. Or suitcase for heavy weight lol. 🙂
I always bring an alarm clock. There's usually no clock in the room, and while I may be on vacation, I still want to know the time
Just saw your text beautiful and elegant.
Princess has a huge selection of TV programming now. Their Medallion net is a game changer.
Great information thank you
Viking's treatment of it's customers makes no sense….they combined two of my trips (without asking) into one "butterfly trip" which meant when I had to cancel the first, it cancelled the 2nd. What? Why? That' our policy,. Then they said (under the Risk Free Guarantee) we could have a voucher, but it would be a combined voucher which could only be used for one future trip. What? Why? That's our policy. Viking is not a good company to work with.
Can I bring a small humidifier?
Balcony suites on cruises over a week are quite expensive. If you’re social and you’re not gonna be in the room much I wouldn’t waste your money there’s plenty of views all around the ship. You don’t go on a ship to spend most of the time in your room
Spend the money and get a room with a balcony. When you’re feeling a little tired you can sit out there in peace and quiet and listen to the sea. Tie your bathing suit to the chair on the balcony. It will dry faster and not blow away. Princess upgraded us for free from a balcony to a mini suite. Unfortunately, they are closer to the middle of the ship. I like the rocking and rolling, I think I’ll miss it.
I read through the comments. Very useful. It was never mentioned about bring your own hot/cold insulated bottle.
I must say .. this vid was actually helpful, things you thought about but wouldn't ask 😀 thank you

I don't think the length of a cruise makes any difference in the type of room to choose. Even on long cruises, 15 days or more, I still prefer an inside or oceanview room.
my pet pave is just letting your cabin door slam close. open the door, grab the handle on the inside and close the door quietly.
I love to sail on the back of the ship. That's where all the good movement is. But on a Transatlantic cruise the waves were so high that with every wave we hit, the drawers and doors in the cabin would open and slam closed. My sister and I had to go out for the chairs on the balcony to prop them against the drawers and doors. Now I travel with a roll of duct tape. I have had to use it only twice…but works like a charm.
We travel on cruises 2-3 times a year My tip the bathroom storage is scarce and I hate the clutter. I bring a plastic shoe organizer and hang it on the back of the door. I use this for hair products medical items, make up and any other small items this way counter is completely free.
I ALWAYS take bracelet or necklace length glow sticks (from $Tree) to use as night lights. Simply make the loops and hang on door knob or door hooks! On one cruise there was a young couple that had an interior room and no night light. She tripped in the dark going to restroom. Poor thing was a mess and had to visit infirmary. I took them some of my glo sticks to help for remainder of cruise. TIP: If you stick them in fridge in morning they’ll usually last 2 days🤩. Happy cruising😎
My wife and I used Amawaterways for 5 times from one to three weeks cruise this is the second one on Lyon to Arles the cruise manager Marc Coll from Andora was great the help ok but the chef zero serving food that PAS MANGEABLE from A to Z rotten fruits don't forget Lyon is THE CAPITOL OF GASTRONOMY we are going to be on Egypt and Israel next February and I'm not sure what we're expecting we had a better experience on the chobe river . fire the chef I hope the family Schreiner get on the chip and that food for a week .
Going on a 20 day cruise next week. I see or smell anyone smoking, there’s going to be hell to pay.
Just took my first ever cruise solo on Explorer of the seas for 8 days this past week and it was probably the best experience of my life so far. Thank you for helping me prepare for the trip with your vids. It truly was the best experience so far of my life. I shocked myself by how much I came out of my comfort zone and sparked many conversations. Not to mention spending my birthday in Aruba, was something I never could've imagined doing before. I feel a little more adventurous now than ever lol
We have always brought a small fan and never had a problem until our last cruise, which was on Princess. On our last cruise they took our small fan. Our room steward went to bat for us and talked to the powers to be and after they took apart the fan to make sure it was in good working order after a few days we did finally get our fan back. It was the first time our fan was questioned and we have cruised on 8 different cruise lines and have many cruises under our belt.
We just did a European cruise and it was our first time at the rear of the ship it was absolutely The Best view I've ever had on all the cruises we've done . When the ship leaves ports the view is simply the best .
are you able to plug in a switch or no…..
BS that hair dryer is sufficient! Just let the ladies decide for themselves! I have very thick very long hair and don’t want to spend hours a day drying it with a weak hair dryer.
Wish I could afford a balcony
thx u
I didn’t know u can choose your own room lol ,
It's beautiful😍🔝
It's actually comical that we have to do so many hacks in a room that is extremely costly. 😆 cruises!
💜💜💜💜💜💜
I love that description of cruises. Take the resort and make it capable of traveling all the way around the planet. Now look at your carbon footprint. I have no kids. I am not at all bothered by the notion of your kids being too hot, too cold, hungry, thirsty eating, breathing and drinking filth. I am able to laugh and laugh until I shit myself. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣💩💩💩
We only ever go interior as we are always upstairs looking around and having a cuppa up on deck, we always get to go on more cruises then too, simply can't afford the balcony anyway!
When booking an interior cabin, we reduce that closed-in feeling by leaving the TV on to the outside ship cameras. It makes it feel like we have a window, plus we know what the weather is before we leave the cabin.
A small spray bottle of febreeze is a good solution for the need "to go" moments
Tysm for th tips I'm going to a cruise for a week in a week!
I’m on the cruise right now lol 😂
A cigarette doesn't make the floor look like that.
STILL TAKE YOUR OWN HAIRDRYER! Especially if your hair is long &/or thick because, as a safety feature, you have to hold that button down the entire time & your finger is going to get sore & tired really quick! I always bring my own on a cruise just for that reason alone.
Also those magnetic flat flash lights from the dollar tree make great night lights .. my friend and I each had one on the wall next to our bed.
One time my parents nearly lost the excursion tickets/pass because of creating a wind tunnel it went to another persons balcony and we were thankfully able to get them back
Get a balcony. If you plan to have sex, it’s 100x better out there! 😅
For those of you that get sea sick try picking a cabin in the center of the ship. the sway of the ship in rough seas will be less.
Omg… what ship is that being shown at 3:50?! 😱 That balcony room is gorgeous!! I want to be in it!!
As an NCL Platinum status member, my last NCL cruise is coming up this May. Besides the extraordinary cost of the free at sea, wifi, etc., they nickel & dime everywhere they possibly can & raised gratuity into the stratosphere. Their treatment of employees was the initial reason why we have cruised NCL exclusively over the last 10+ years but they have gone the extreme other way this past year by not allowing them above crew quarters, doubling their work load, cutting salaries, etc., etc. NCL has also cut entertainment, closed the purse strings at the casinos & cut back on service. I get it that they need to catch up from Covid financially but they have crossed the line. Not to mention their new Prima class is cold, bland + uninviting. We're finally throwing in the towel + admitting defeat.
I know that I'm in the minority here but I prefer interior cabins. I love hanging out, going to bed and not knowing whether it's day or night when I wake up.
Recently had my first cruise with friends who were veteran cruisers. They brought lots of magnetic hooks and large hangable organizers that worked great
