Danjogaran Complex (壇上伽藍), Koyasan Area, Wakayama Prefecture

Danjogaran Complex (壇上伽藍) contains more than fifteen structures in the midwestern area of Koyasan Mountain. These fifteen structures contain various items like, halls, stupas and temples. One of the most noted is the red colored Dai-to, means large stupa. In addition to this there are shrines that are dedicated to the kami of Koyasan and the halls that once housed Monk Kobo Daishi and his disciples. Some structures were built during Kobo Daishi’s times and most of them were conceived during his time but were started and completed much later.
