Kanazawa is definitely one of the best sustainable travel destinations. Old buildings are very well preserved and still used so you can feel a lovely classic atmosphere here and there.
🟡 BUDGET & SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL TIPS in KANAZAWA (金沢) 🟡
🌎 Sustainability
Kanazawa is famous for its traditional veggies. If you are going to stay at Airbnb or a backpacker’s hostel, you can enjoy cooking unique local veggies. Eating local traditional foods helps reduce carbon footprint!
🚃 Transportation
・【Shirakawago→Kanazawa】
Take a bus from the Shirakawago bus terminal. One way ¥2,000/person.

・【Osaka→Kanazawa】
If you are a foreign resident, JR Rail Pass is convenient.

“seisyun 18 ticket” is also very cheap but it is sold only 3 times a year.

・Bus is extremely convenient in the city centre.
👀 Sightseeing Ideas
・Stroll in the historical areas is very satisfying even if you are not a history buff. There are fewer people compared to Kyoto so walking and taking pictures are easier there.
🌱 Vegan Foods
・【Los Angels】
This vegan restaurant where I bought a muffin holds cooking lessons sometimes. They also sell takeaway bento so you can enjoy a picnic at Kanazawa castle park which is next to this restaurant. https://www.instagram.com/lakanazawa/
・【Si zhi tang kanazawa(四知堂)】
This is not a vegan cafe but Taiwanese soy milk puddings are usually plant-based.

・You can find fresh-cut fruit and fruits juice at the Omicho market
・Google map and SNS info were sometimes not updated so I wandered in the town even though outside was over 35 degrees. You should better make a phone call or send a DM to check if the restaurants are opening or not.
💊 Non-MSG info
・The shop assistant of the Tofu shop in Omicho market told me Tofu salad does not use any animal ingredients but they did not tell me about the ingredients of seasonings.
・There are heaps of supermarkets in Kanazawa so you can easily buy plain rice, seaweed, natto, fruits, green salads, and so on.
🖥 Nomad life
・Finding a calm cafe in Obon season(mid-August) was difficult so I worked from a huge park. Rakuten mobile hotspot well worked then. If you don’t need to make a phone call, there’re tons of cafes with free wifi.
