National Tulip Day 2023- Tulips & Vermeer

New Amsterdam Travel Video- National Tulip Day marks the beginning of tulip selling season in the Netherlands. To celebrate, tulip growers set up a temporary garden with over 200,000 tulips on Museumplein behind the Rijksmuseum and invite the public to pick a bunch of tulips for free to take home. We were invited early to take pictures of and to film the flowers before opening at one o’ clock. Dutch Olympic skater, Irene Schouten was on hand to christen a new variety of tulip, the Tulipa Dutch Pearl, which is in honor of Vermeer’s famous painting, The Girl With a Pearl Earring. Irene also officially opened the garden with an amazing fire show. The eagerly awaiting tulip pickers immediately entered the garden to the sounds of a live marching band. With their colorful bunches under their arms, everyone went home happy. #NationalTulipDay #tulips #Vermeer
