Mount Tarumae

Mount Tarumae, Lake Shikotsu, Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan
12 October 2019

This #travel video is a part of the #Japan #roundtrip we have made in October 2019.

It turned out to be good that we went to the visitor center first. We wanted to go to the Koke No Domon. This is a mossy canyon. From there you can walk up Mount Tarumae. Mount Tarumae is a volcano that erupted in 1981. Now you can still see smoke coming out. There were a number of red crosses on a map. The canyon and several roads were closed due to a landslide about 20 years ago.
Fortunately, we could end up with the camper via an unpaved road. On foot only 400 altimeters remained. It was dry, cloudy and there was a strong breeze. Once on the crater rim it really stormed. It was a busy route. You could tell that it is the weekend and we are close to Sapporo.
We drove back to Lake Shikotsu for a pastry from a real pastry shop, delicious! With that we ended the camper adventure on Hokkaido. With a tidy camper we drove back to the camper rental company in Chitose.
