Series Overview: Though Japan may be a small country, there is so much history, art, adventure, luxury and culinary experiences in each one of its regions! I am so glad that I spent 2 weeks exploring the Setouchi Region. We were able to marvel at the beauty of the Seto Inland Sea from seaplanes and catamarans and as we crossed impressive bridges to the many islands. The islands themselves were home to so much culture and traditional craft, not to mention breathtaking mountains, rivers, valleys and gorges.
Don’t miss Hiroshima’s A Bomb dome or an onsen–my favorite was in Arima! Stop in Kobe to try out the best beef of your life, and while there, check out the sake breweries in Nada to learn more about this national drink. Miyajima Island is another highlight with its torii gate and Itsukushima shrine, as well as its friendly deer!
And of course, staying at ryokan, especially one in Kurashiki, or a kominka in the Iya Valley, will leave you with incredible photos and memories.
There’s so much more to see and say about this region, but I’ll let you watch this series overview as I think that explains it the best!
