Our Japan Trip continued with a visit of the Oki Islands, a very off the beaten path travel destination. Starting early in the morning, we took a bus to a port near Matsue, from where a ferry took us to Nishinoshima Island, one of 4 inhabited Islands of the Oki archipelago. The overall journey took two and a half hours and was a rather interesting experience. As we were in the 2nd and cheapest class of the ferry, we had to sit on the floor with many other people, which was quite strange for me. Nevertheless, the journey was quite nice and I got some great views of the open sea from the top deck. After arriving on Nishinoshima, we went to a restaurant where we had the local special dish of Sazae Curry and afterwards, were picked up by our very fancy Ryokan. This was probably the nicest place I have stayed in so far in Japan, with a quite breathtaking view over the nearby see. After settling down, we headed outside again to the breathtaking Kuniga Coast, with high cliffs and green pastures full with cows and horses. We started from the highest point and hiked down the hill for around an hour and a half, just reaching the bottom after sunset. In the evening, we enjoyed a nice Onsen bath in our Ryokan as well as some very rich, Japanese Dinner.
