京都と滋賀にまたがる比叡山。その山全体が延暦寺の寺域です。
延暦寺は「東塔」「西塔」「横川」の3つのエリアがあり、今回は「東塔」エリアを散策しました。
「東塔」エリアは延暦寺総本堂の根本中堂(2023年現在改修工事中、中には入れます)、大講堂、法華総持院東塔、戒壇院など日本を代表する建物が多くあります。
高野山(和歌山県)と並び昔から信仰対象の山とされ、多くの著名人が訪れました。
市街地からは離れていますが、車や鉄道・ロープウェイで行くことができます。
ぜひ足を運んだ際には、天台宗総本山の場所と空気を肌で感じてみてください。
Mount Hiei straddles Kyoto and Shiga. The entire mountain is the Enryaku-ji temple area.
Enryaku-ji Temple has three areas: the East Pagoda, the West Pagoda, and Yokogawa.
In the “East Pagoda” area, there are many buildings that represent Japan, such as the Nemoto Chudo Hall (under renovation as of 2023, but you can go inside), the Main Lecture Hall, the East Pagoda of the Hokke Sojiin Temple, and the Kaidan-in Temple.
Along with Koyasan (Wakayama Prefecture), it has long been considered a mountain of faith and has been visited by many famous people.
Although it is far from the city center, it can be reached by car, train, or ropeway.
If you visit, please experience firsthand the location and atmosphere of the head temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism.
