Narai-Juku is one of the few towns in Japan that still has the same townscape it had in the Edo period, when Samurai strolled its streets.
Lying on the Nakasendo, an important route between Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto, Narai-Juku was one of the 69 post towns along the way, just before the steepest and most exhausting part of the route.
Rich with history and also local handicraft, I made my way to the town in the Kiso valley, trying replace a Japanese item dear to my heart, but close to the end of its life.
Follow me and a local friend on this Japan documentary through Narai-Juku.

Also here’s a drinking game: Have a shot every time I say ‘personal’.
All the shots, editing, transitions, and sfx are excellent. Great video. I hope Michael gets to show LOTS of people around Narai!
Do foreigners need an Japanese name? Is that compulsory for living long time in Japan as foreigners?
any time you are traveling to Germany, dress like Japanese people and travel to your country, people will love to take pictures with you
Well you could have also went to Obama though they specialize in mother of pearl and lacquer ware chopsticks

Michael seems like such a fun person! Of all the videos we've seen of Narai, you covered places that others haven't. Danke, Johannes!
