Today, we will walk along Ameyoko Street in Okachimachi, Ueno, which is arguably the busiest street in Japan.
Let’s go around Ueno’s Sakura Terrace first, where you can enjoy Ueno’s only Christmas illumination.
I was surprised at the liveliness of Ameyoko. It reminded me of Japan before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ameyoko is a shopping street that spans about 500 meters between Ueno Station and Okachimachi Station on the JR Yamanote Line, located in Taito Ward, Tokyo. It consists of about 400 shops and is a popular spot for both locals and foreign tourists. There are various shops in Ameyoko where you can enjoy a wide range of gourmet foods at reasonable prices.
Since it’s Friday, you can see many office workers going out to drink.
It seems that many people are enjoying the end-of-the-year party, where movement restrictions have been lifted for the first time in three years.
After looking around the bustling Ameyoko-dori, head to Akihabara UDX to see the illuminations.
Walk along the train tracks for about 15 minutes from Okachimachi will bring you to Akihabara Station.
The illumination of Akihabara UDX was very gorgeous and wonderful.
