Eikando Temple(永観堂), located in Kyoto, Japan, is a part of the Jodo sect in Japanese Buddhism.  Eikando Temple is famous for its autumn foliage attracting both Japanese and international visitors. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful fall colors during the day as well as at night, as there are evening illuminations during the autumn. The view of the red maple leaves as they fall onto the Hojo Pond is a scene visitors do not want to miss. This temple, formerly known as the Zenrinji Temple, was donated by a court noble during the Heian Period (710-1185). The priest, who received the donation, converted the nobleman’s villa into a temple and named the temple Zenrinji (literally translated to mean “temple in a calm grove”).
