At an altitude of 1,283m, it is located at the top of the Shimojo Mountains on the border with Achi Village. Forests of white birch and beech grow in the vicinity, and it has been selected as one of the 100 best natural landscapes in Nagano Prefecture. Overlooking the Ina Basin, it is located in a position rich in nature and with a superb view. The road has a long history and is said to have developed as one of the intermediate roads of the Tosando, and was a key route connecting the Shimojo area and the Tokai region.
