What’s it like to fly from Hawaii to Japan with two young kids? I wanted to share our experience flying to Japan from Hawaii with a toddler and infant. It was our first time traveling as a family. Yes, it was tough. The eight-hour flight felt extremely long, especially since our toddler didn’t sleep on the flight. We flew with Japan Airlines on this flight, which I highly recommend for the Honolulu to Narita flight. Great service and definitely worth the cost.

  1. Empty plane and only 8 hours. My flight to Paris was 14–yes count them–hours because planes cannot fly over Russia, and packed because Narita is the transfer point from New Caledonia to Paris. On top of that, there was NO inflight entertainment. I was glad I had a day layover in Paris to recover from that soul-crushing, physically exhausting flight. Can't wait to see your Japan videos.

  2. Tough to fly with kids? nah – can do! Now we wait for the cheap eats episode the wifey was talking about.

  3. I could not help but chuckle at the exhausted aloha at the end lol. After traveling with my son when he was 18 months old to California, I'm pretty set on not traveling with young kids for a while haha. You guys are troopers

  4. Just want to send a big mahalo to Japan Airlines for helping us out on the flight. The flight attendants were amazing and so accommodating to our situation. Flying with two young kids isn't easy, but they helped out so much. 🤙

  5. I always find it difficult to sleep when flying from the US to Japan. But not the other way around.

  6. I remember those days. Traveling with two young kids is like moving. We had to bring so much onto the plane.

  7. When my kids were young like yours we always sat in bulk head seats like you did. More room for kids to plzy and nap. The longest we flew was to Hawaii to visit ohana and back to California. Now I fly with my young grandkids 4, 2,and 1, but I dont have to watch them the whole flight.

  8. You should have maybe considered doing a small intra island test flight before a major flight. Did that with my son and he slept through most of the long haul flight

  9. Soon you won't even remember how tired you were. You'll remember the time spent with the family and when you guys went on that trip to Japan. Safe and Happy Travels!

  10. ALOHA 💕 You BOTH are awesome parents!! Stay strong! Have a wonderful with your Ohana 💕 Oh!And eat tons of yummy food!

  11. Interesting to see your calm and reasoned approach turned towards "domestic" rather than Hawaii-related affairs, although I'm sure some skillful editing is also probably at play here 🙂 And besides the sentiments detailed here in comments, you should know there are probably many, many of us unseen subscribers who are with you and the family in spirit because we've all been there before. Thanks for sharing!

  12. Yay, Japan! My husband and I just came back from Japan last week. Went to visit my son, who is working there. It was one of my best trips, ever! Like your wife said, “delicious and cheap food!” Shopping was so, so reasonable with the strong dollar against the yen. Enjoy yourself with family. I know it is rough traveling with young kids but you guys are terrific parents and seeing your wife’s family and friends is important. Have fun and enjoy yourselves! Looking forward to you Japan videos!

  13. I enjoy all of your laid back videos. I
moved to Japan from Honolulu in 1998.
Your videos always bring back nice
memories of my hanabada days in
    Nanakuli, Pearl City and Aiea…Enjoy
    your travel in Japan.

  14. I feel for you. I traveled from Hawaii to the Canary Islands once with a very active 2 year old. We went via LA, Heathrow, Malaga and finally Tenerife. Had to stop in Malaga to go thru customs and almost missed my bus back to the plane. By the time I got there I was exhausted! There were no iPads or nonstop entertainment in those days. Whew! To this day I still hate those long trips. But you have to do what you have tp do to get to where you’re going. Safe travels…. It does get easier when they’re older. Time to plan your next trip😊. It’s all about creating memories for them and you.

  15. We did the same thing years ago. This time we flew from LAX to Narita13 hours of JAL economy class! So many paper works than before! On my smart phone "SOS" and Corona vaccine certificates, travel insurance, moble WiFi Simi card….etc! Then we flew to Okinawa to participate Okinawa "Uchinanchu festival"!
