Explore Nature in Tokyo: a 1 minute tour to the Hossawa Falls

When you think about Tokyo the image in your head is rarely of green forests and mountain rivers yet the metropolitan area has some beautiful spots to enjoy nature. One of them is Okutama, a mountainous area on western side of Tokyo. An hour and half train ride from the city, it has all an outdoor lover may want – hiking trails that go through quaint villages and tall cedar forests, crystal clear rivers with emerald ponds and many waterfalls. In this video I take you to one of them, the Hossawa Falls near the village of Hinohara.
We had been to the waterfall in the spring and in the fall – since the path to it goes through a maple tree forest, both seasons offer some spectacular views alongside the trail. Because we heard that the waterfall freezes in the winter, we wanted to see what it looks like covered in ice. As it happened, the weather warmed up in the days before our visit so the waterfall had lost some of its ice but was never the less beautiful. It was a nice sunny morning and the sunshine streaming through the branches of the trees danced on the surface of the ponds and bathed the moss covered valley of the river in warm bright light. The views were simply magical! Enjoy this short trip to the waterfalls with me and if you did click on the LIKE button 🙂

ABOUT THE SPIRIT OF JAPAN TOURS:
In Japanese, the character WA (和) means harmony and equilibrium. The concept of WA can be observed in every aspect of life in Japan: from the way society functions to the harmonious way the elements of a Japanese garden are combined and the elegant, precise movements of a master performing a tea ceremony – all of that is WA and all aim to achieve perfect harmony.
At Spirit of Japan Tours we are dedicated to help you experience the spirit of WA on a deep and transformational level. Our carefully crafted tours incorporate the best of Japan’s irresistible charm: its ancient history and traditions, awe-inspiring natural beauty and its unique blend of spirituality, based on Zen and native Shinto practices. They are a joyful creation that will enhance your sense well-being and enjoyment of life and help you discover your own inner WA – the place where you are in perfect harmony with your own self and the world.
