The sport’s first professional series, D1 Grand Prix, was founded in Japan in 2000 and has since gone from strength to strength, making stars out of drivers like Daigo Saito and Masato Kawabata. With drifting making such a splash around the globe, world auto racing governing body FIA is now beginning to dip its toe in the water.
