It’s only November 11 – BUT – Christmas is on in Fukuoka! Join us as we check out the opening night of Christmas Market in Fukuoka – at Hakata Station

Enjoy the European atmosphere of the Christmas season! This year marks the market’s 10th anniversary, which is held at three venues in the city center: in front of Hakata Station (from Nov. 11), in front of the City Hall Plaza in Tenjin (from Nov. 21), and at Daimaru Passage Plaza (from Nov. 19).

While the front of JR Hakata Station is shining brightly with illuminations, Fukuoka’s winter tradition, the Christmas Market, will be held again this year. Stalls will sell foods & drinks, such as hot wine, sausages, and traditional Christmas decorations.

The Christmas Market will also be held in the square in front of the city hall in Tenjin. Passing through a huge arch, a wooden Hutte and 100 life-sized Santa figurines welcome you! At the venue, paella made in a massive pan and other foods will be offered as traditional Christmas decorations.

The third area is in Nakasu in Fukuhaku Deai Bridge which will be decorated with a giant Christmas tree and glittering illuminations. This year, Tenjin Chuo Park will be added as a new illumination spot, and the entire park will shine with the lighting of the trees.

  1. Another pleasant and interesting evening, and at 1:02:33 , the sentiments you shared about the values of Kyushu, and others coming to Kyushu I personally know to be true, and your invitation for others who share a love for the values that make Kyushu and Fukuoka unique, still resonate in my heart even though it's been many, many years since I was there and experienced the values and unique quality of life that obviously moves and inspires you so much.
I've been to many places around the world and lived for a time a few, and of them all Japan and especially Kyushu and Fukuoka most dear to my heart. Now that I have some meager means that no longer make a comfortable life in America possible, and I look for more of value and meaning that also matches my means, my focus and heart are drawn most closely to Japan and Kyushu.

As such Nick and Emiko San, I much appreciate the few moments I can return to Kyushu and a place that's dear to my heart. I hope that someday I might be able to return, and stay more than for just a visit.

    Thanks again!

  2. Fantastic! I always love the Hakata and Tenjin Christmas markets, thanks for taking me back. And enjoy the weather too! It’s -19C here in Alberta

  3. Wish I caught this but I had a very LONG day going to and from Seoul for a doctor's appointment. It's also insanely warm here in Korea for some reason. It's nice to see the market up despite it feeling way too early for Christmas.

  4. As you said Nick it is too early for Xmas market especially when temperature hits 20C but truth to be told in Germany and some other EU places Xmas markets started already as well 😊🎄🎅
    Thank you for the video!
