I mentioned in your MS video I have a vacation condo in Orange Beach. I'm not on the beach but in a boating community on a bay. Right on the water so a nice view. But more affordable than the condos on the beach. I love it there. I enjoy riding my bike on the Gulf State Park trails and playing golf down there. Most people go to the beach side of the FloraBama bar/grill. It's bigger and they have 4-5 bands playing throughout the facility. And believe it or not they hold church on Sundays there. Wear your shorts and flip flops to church. During the Winter it is packed out due to all the snow birds staying down there.
Moved away from Gulf Shores last year after living there for 13 years. When we moved there we loved the idea of living where people vacation. Tourism grew every year we lived there to the point that quality of life wasn’t great. Imagine your weekly grocery shopping or any small trip for one item during “season” feeling like Black Friday … yeah, not fun. Winter used to be better but snow birds have massively increased as well. So there isn’t really a “slow” season for locals anymore. We moved to Birmingham and I love being back in a big city with tons of restaurants that serve more than seafood! Now I go back to visit my sister and friend and get to be a tourist! And it’s enjoyable again!
We come down from Central Ohio for 2 months every winter. The beach front condos are pretty reasonable compared to those in southern Florida at that time of year.
I love Orange Beach my wife and I go there to ride bicycles through the swamps they have some great bicycle paths we also love the beaches and the seafood. Great video as it has me wanting to go I think I’m gonna make a reservation in for January thanks for the tip on the best Western I have noticed that they are getting better.
I was bitten by a spider in Alabama. It crawled into my mouth while I was sleeping. I don't know who bit who first, but I pulled legs out of my teeth when I woke up and had a big double prong bite on the inside of my cheek.
I had a feeling you were going to say "Best Western" at the end! We also have Best Western hotels here in Australia, and I've stayed in a number of them over the years. I've found the quality in the local establishments to be quite consistently good. I don't know if perhaps they're just generally nicer here for some reason, or if I've just lucked out so far 😄 These last few videos along the Gulf Coast have been rather eye-opening. I never knew there were such lovely beachside locations in those particular states. Thanks for the trip, Lord!
This is why I like going to Southeast Asia better than driving this 7 hours to Gulf Shores area. Yes it's close and it's pretty and everything but you could go to more beautiful beaches in other places of the world and live really well on $1,000 for the entire month near beautiful beaches
Wow very nice I never knew that Alabama had such beautiful Golf coast , on my Bucket list to visit. I would love to buy one of those high rise condos just for vacation. Great video 👍
Thursday October 27th we were staying at the Lighthouse in Gulf Shores. We also like the Summerhouse in Orange Beach. Go the week after the shrimp fest in late October for the best rates great weather and no crowds.
Thanks for creating content to help bring thousands of people to that area. Its the people like you that really help the locals break free from privacy and seclusion.
What this video doesn't show is that during most of the year now it's full of tourists with heavy traffic and they're putting up condos on every inch of available beach. It's no different than destin or anywhere else now
Just wanted to ask which you preferred, the Mississippi gulf coast or the Alabama gulf coast? They both seem like great places to visit and, of course, I'm looking for economy. Tks in advance for you input!😊
You're right about the Waffle Houses in Ms & Al. U mentioned in Biloxi Kessler Air force base. There's a Navy Base in Gulfport. The whole Gulf coast is beautiful & just completely awesome! The weather is like Florida with a lot of sunshine. Ms & Al are a little cheaper to live than Fl.. There's also some amusement parks in Ms & Al. There not as big as Disney world, but a lot cheaper! I've been sharing your videos! Beautiful video!!!
You share such quality videos exploring the less known, often unseen small towns, rural villages, railroads & rivers, seaports and stories….but IMHO when you add the wife it's not the same. Felt I had to ask if you might continue doing them solo because your approach & commentary is perfect the way it is.
Your videos are very interesting but I dislike your wife or whoever that is as clickbait to watch. It’s sad you feel you need to do that when you have great content.
I'm glad you finally got to do a video on Gulf Shores, in my mind the star of the Gulf. I first visited it 60 years ago when I was 16 to visit with my brother in Bon Secour who recently moved there from Atlanta and met his future wife. At that time a small two lane state highway (Hwy 59) went down there and had a small swinging or draw bridge to get over the intercoastal canal. The beach was BEAUTIFUL with sand dunes everywhere and wild sea oats growing until a few years later a hurricane flattened them out. About the only visitors were the state college students on breaks and during the winter the "Snow Birds" who would come down from the northern states to stay during the winter. I had many first's there including my first date kiss on the beach. I have only been to another beach during that time is in Florida. To me, the place to go is Gulf Shores.
Nice Area, thanks for the great footage! I and the Mrs have added this to our bucket list! I really want to bikepack the coast to FL and Back! Semper Fi and Can Do OORAH
Looks nice to be fair, somewhere to consider in the future maybe. I’m from the UK and have a place on the Spanish Portuguese border,i can get there for £40 return flight so it’s a no brainer for me. I’ll dip into some more of your videos as they are interesting.
You went to the Flora-Bama Beach Club. The actual Flora-Bama bar is across the street on the gulf side. (Next to your car when you were wondering were to park) Hopefully you got to see that. It's pretty impressive.

Not too many trees at all
Don't believe any of this, it's crappy, hot, you shouldn't come!
I had a feeling you were going to say "Best Western" at the end!

My home
30 mins from there and I hardly ever go there nowadays. Way too packed in the summer. Back before 1985, it was a very small town along the beach.
ROLL TIDE
Beautiful yes, but in Alabama, unfortunately.🤮
Average condo owner probably 70? Children can’t afford the condo fees when they inherit them.

I wonder how much that hotel costs in prime season?

Great area. I was down there a few years ago for a wedding. No shortage of The Waffle House like you mentioned.
You have a very relaxing way of talking, keep it up the great work
WOW!! Is right!! Outstanding video.
The Redneck Riviera Florida's Forgotten Coast has to return like it was 21 or more years ago!
They're sterilized or suburbanized the entire Mississippi, Alabama, Florida Gulf Coast for your boredom!
It all looks one dimensional and boring now!

Sorry, I would rather go to Huatulco, Mexico or Manta, Ecuador. Sorry, so sorry.

Many people don't know about Alabama's beautiful beaches. North Alabama is beautiful too!
👍🙏
You forgot all of the amazing and inexpensive restaurants shortly north of gulf shores such as foley and robertsdale.
