Keita Tsukiji

1981年福岡県那珂川市に移住。
In 1981, he moved to Nakagawa City,

器造りを中心に全国で活動。
Fukuoka Prefecture in Japan where he worked nationwide,

チュニジアで陶芸指導し、外務大臣感謝状を貰い、
focusing on pottery. He taught pottery in Tunisia and received a letter of appreciation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

ライフワークの舎利壷作りも30年経過。
His life’s work of making Shari jars has been going on for 30 years.

いつも器をつくるときに料理をのせて丁度映える控えめな器を創る事を心がけている。
Whenever I make a bowl, I always try to make a modest bowl that looks just right with the dishes on top.

器を考えるたびに、「難しいなあ」と嘆きながら。
Whenever I think about the bowl, I say to myself, “It’s hard.”

何が難しいかというと、
The difficulty is…

この器に何を盛るのかなあ、
I wonder what I’m going to put in this bowl,

これも盛れるかなあ、盛り付けて写りはどうだろう。
and I wonder if I can put this in this bowl, and how it looks.

収納しやすいだろうか、
I wonder if it’s easy to store,

使い易い値段だろうか、楽しい器になっているかなあ等と思いを巡らせる。
whether it’s easy to use, or whether it’s a fun bowl.

人間は生きている間何ぼのものでしょうか。
Life is a hundred different things to a hundred people,

人生、百人百様、喜怒哀楽、
joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure,

生前たかだか八十年、没後は何千年と続く。
lasting only 80 years before death and thousands of years after death.

色々な人生にふさわしい、人の思いを伝える器を作りました。
I have created a vessel to convey people’s thoughts that are appropriate for various lives.
