This will be more than just a physical hike as it is one of the three mountains of Dewa Sanzan – which are thought to symbolise birth, death and rebirth. The journey begins at the bottom of Mt. Haguro, where you pray for happiness in your present life. From there you begin moving up the 2,446 steps of the stone stairway lined by 300-500-year-old cedar trees on your journey towards rebirth.
