Kamakura is an easy and worthwhile day trip from Tokyo. The biggest attraction on the Yokosuka Line is Kamakura’s famous Great Buddha. The Buddha is a monumental outdoor bronze statue of Amida Buddha at the Kōtoku-in Temple that dates back to 1252. Then, walk down to the Hasedera Temple if you want breathtaking looks of the Kamakura coastline and beautiful temple scenery. From there end the day at the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine and grab some food on the way there from Komachidori Street. But for some peace and quiet, Engakuji Temple, located right off the Kita-Kamakura Station on the Yokosuka Line, is less crowded than most sites in the city.
