Join us at West Union Gardens to explore one of the top sunflower gardens in Oregon. In today’s video, I’ll share the highlights of the sunflower gardens and how to visit West Union Gardens yourself.

West Union Gardens are in Hillsboro, Oregon. The gardens are about a 20-minute drive west of Portland.
One of the first things we noticed about the sunflower gardens is that all of the sunflowers were pointing east. This creates a great opportunity for photographing the sunflowers against the sunset!
I turned to an article in Science Direct to learn more about this intriguing behavior. It turns out that young sunflowers track the movement of the sun throughout the day, turning to follow the sun as it moves across the sky. Once they’re mature, sunflowers remain facing east. The sunflower bloom season is generally August-September. Check the West Union Gardens website for details in the year you go. Here is the link: http://westuniongardens.com/flower_field.php
This year, one sunflower field peaked in early August, and the second sunflower field is expected to peak in early September. Updates are posted regularly on the garden website so you’ll know when to visit.
Visiting the gardens requires tickets, which in 2022 were $5 per person and could be purchased online.
