Kadena town used to be a one part of Chatan village until before the Battle of Okinawa.

After the war, U.S. Military took a wide range of land from Chatan village, and built many of Military facilities.

Then local people got hard to come and go between Kadena to Chatan, and Kadena finally separated from Chatan and independent.
