In today’s video we’re exploring Japan’s scariest hot springs – The 7 Hells of Beppu in Kyushu Japan!
Beppu’s Hells or Jigoku Meguri are the most popular attractions in Beppu. The hot spring Hells of Beppu are a nationally designated “Place of Scenic Beauty”- a truly natural wonder and scenic spot that you need to add to your Kyushu itinerary! In today’s Japan Travel Guide we’ll show you the best thing to do in Beppu, tour the Hells!
Beppu is famous for being the onsen capital of Japan, having over 2000 onsens- its most famous of which are the Hells! These aren’t your usual onsens, being far too hot to bathe in, the Hells are for viewing only!
In this Japan travel guide we take you to all 7 Hells, from a boiling geyser to stunning blue pools and even one bursting with crocodiles! While the striking colours and extreme temperatures are surprising, the most shocking thing about the Hells is their depth- some are over 100m deep!
Oita prefecture – known as the onsen (hot spring) capital of Japan – is a popular destination in Japan, though it is often overlooked by tourists. We hope you visit Beppu and add Kyushu to your Japan travel plans as it really is a hidden gem and great place to visit in Japan!

Hello – Were you on holiday or was this shot months beforehand? I have not visited Beppu, but it was pleasant to see it through your eyes. I am surprised that the crocodiles were piled together in the manner you described knowing that Japan has reverence to many animals in nature. I must say though, crocs if not competing for food seem to socially congregate in the wild. Are these crocs native to that area surviving in the mix of onsen and fresh water? Are they breeding them and then releasing them in a more natural setting? Great job to the both of you! Cheers.
That was a fun watch
Great stuff, yet again
